Re: Does the order of synergistic muscles indicate importanc
For every exercise, the synergistic muscles are presented in a list. Does the order of the list indicate how important each muscle is to the exercise? Sorry if silly question. Not a silly question. And as far as I can tell, the synergists are usually (but not always ) placed n order of importance. ...

Re: Latissimus Dorsi & Teres Major
I don't have a way to do pullups, in part, because I can't do them. So, I'm trying to build the strength to be able to later. If you can get access to a bar, you might want to try negative pull ups . Depending on your level of strength, you might do negative pull ups as part of a progression . Spea...

Re: Latissimus Dorsi & Teres Major
I have noted that there is no dumbbell exercise listed for the Latissimus Dorsi & Teres Major muscles. General back exercises work the lats and teres major muscles, particularly if the arms are kept close to the torso. The dumbbell bent over row will works the lats along with the rest of the back m...

Re: How do I engage the core?
There is some debate as to whether sucking in your gut helps when you're lifting serious weight. My personal opinion is that if you do exercises correctly, the core muscles will be engaged. The body's muscles were meant to act as a unit, not in isolation. It's a safe bet that champion powerlifters a...

Re: Shoulder injury, can't do pullup?
Does your shoulder still freeze?
I'm mystified as to what the problem is. Maybe some sort of impingement, but that usually is accompanied by either tingling or significant pain.

Re: Pain in lower back when doing leg extn
Try extending your knees from a seated position WITHOUT weight.
If your lower back still hurts when doing that, a visit to a sports doctor (or other qualified professional) is in order.
BTW - does your lower back hurt when you do other leg exercises (particularly the leg press?)

Re: Thoughts on my workout?
@rohan: I have to go with the idea of a beginner using an established program (like Starting Strength or StrongLifts 5x5) rather than roll his own routine. For trainers that are starting out, simple is better. Once you get past the beginner phase, you'll have plenty of time to tinker routines to fit...

Re: Thoughts on my workout?
- I plan to do this in a continuous cycle and I may take a day off here and there. That scheme works for beginners. But most of the early gains in strength by beginners is the result of neurological adaptation rather than muscular gains. Once the adaptation phase to weight training ends - and it wi...

@Ken Downs:
Good to hear from you again.
You're doing the right thing - making the gym part of your life, rather than the focus of your life. Love and work definitely are more important - but being fit will help you enjoy both more.
Keep in touch.

@richie97:
If your buddy is an athlete with health concerns, he should discuss his weight training with his coach. If his coach has no plans for him, he should find another coach.

Re: Plan for my girlfriend
. her main goal is to get more in shape at her butt and her legs. Sadly, many - probably most - women have body image dissatisfaction with their thighs and buttocks. They aspire to look like runway models. Diet and exercise can only go so far if a woman isn't cut out to be a runway model. Just like...
