For a 175 lb. man swimming 30 minutes burns 700 to 800 calories. This is because of the resistence of the water. There are also water exercises and I have no idea what they burn, but I would think it is about the same as regular swimming. If you increase the pace of the swimming to make it anaerobic...

oops.... That's a point. We kind of hijacked your thread starting this morning. Sorry about that Maniac. Don't worry about wading through all this. If you're even still following this, just use this. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html and this http://www.exrx.net/Lists/WorkoutMenu.html To make...

I think it is. I have heard people rip on it, but not many. I love to swim and I know it uses a lot of energy because nothing makes me feel tired and hungry like swimming. There are also exercises you can do in the water. It can be used for cardio, anaerobic work outs, any type of interval. The wate...

Tim and Bill, I disagree and will leave it at that. I didn't post any 10-20 set a part marthons. I posted a pyramid where half the sets are barley warmups, and a low volume. First your talking extereme HIT, then the low intesity and periodized stuff of the high volume guys (while I get accused of be...

He didn't ask for diet advice, he asked about his routine. 1 pound of muscle uses an aditional 35 to 50 calories a day depending on activity level. How is that counterproductive? Building the muscle uses calories, why is that bad? The more mass you have the more energy you use doing exercises. So th...

Here is where you can get info on stretches. Look at the column on the right.

I don't know about the kenetic exercise though. You are probably going to at least need a book, if not a doctor visit.

I think fat loss and keeping it off are best acheived through mass building. That's why I do it, I am never going to compete. I think weight lifting should be geared twoards the building of mass. An anaerobic exercise that does only fat burning should be in addition to a mass building routine. Such ...

Yep, ask 10 people and get 11 opinions. We can't agree on weather or not it's raining to be honest. :) The wide stance squats are for inner thighs. They are technically a pull muscle although they are exercised with a push motion in this case. The weight is lighter because most of the pressue is put...

Actually pushups was just an example. I mean everything. Everything you listed could be too little too much or just right depending on the person. On that Mary thing, if you can do 10 handstand pushups and 15 pullups, either those squats are going to be WAY easy, you've got weak legs or you have to ...

It's just some basic compound lifts with a little isolation sprinkled in. It isn't hard to make a routine like that. You just have to know muscles and lifts. Go to the muscle and exercise directory on this site and see what muscles are used in what lift and to what degree. Now if you are talking abo...

People do seem to like bodyweight stuff a lot. Here is what I don't understand. Let's say a person has a weight and strength that let them do 20 pushups at a time. Doing bench press with a weight that lets you get 20 reps is bad. The pushups are great though. Let's say there is another person who is...

Really the first rep of mostof those doesn't count. 12 at 50 is warm up set. Say you 1RM is 100 on bench, it would be 12 sets of 50lbs. You really don't have to do that set. It is true there is more to do with upper body. We can change it to lower volume. Use a spotter to find your 1RPM or even just...

It's good if the excercises overlap too. Even if one works it harder then another. for me it's like this: anterior delts: flat/decline bench, incline bench, overhead press lateral delts: overhead press, lateral raises posterior delts: bent over rows, pulldowns upper traps: shrugs, lateral raises, to...
