Downtime from lifting...

Because of a medical issue I am going to have to take a break for a while from intense lifting. I'd like to preserve as much of the progress I've made, so I'm wondering what I can do to maintain the most muscle without being able to do an intense workout. The ideas I'm currently toying with... I don't think you are neglecting shoulders (at least front delts) if you are doing chest dips and push ups.

Supine Rows would probably be a pretty good addition for the back.

I like it. My recent routine is pretty similar (only differences I also do leg presses and I do hyperextensions which are similar to good mornings) and I've been getting great results in my legs lately. I do deadlifts on back day too cause my leg day is already my most brutal day. If you want to tak...

muscles not included in templates

Can anyone sum up the value (if there is much of any) in working the smaller muscle groups that aren't listed as primary or optional targets in any of the templates on the site. I'm talking about the Serratus Anterior and the rotator cuff muscles (Subscapularis, Infraapinatus, Supraspinatus). Is it ...

Exercise order during a workout

Is there any right way for determining the order of exercises during a workout? For example in a Chest and Triceps workout, should one do all the Chest exercises together then work the Triceps, or mix them in together? Also, would it make sense to cluster together the most similar exercises (for exa...

I don't think so, my experience was similar when I started (which wasn't that long ago). But as I've progressed, without doing anything differently I've felt it more in the chest and actually seen my most noticeable gains in that area. If I were to make any suggestions, I would say just make sure yo...

Other than the good fats as suggested, I would watch to make sure you are getting a decent amount of fiber, which can help with your weight loss goal cause it helps keep you full. Make sure to choose whole grain bread, pasta, etc. whenever possible. Also you didn't mention any fruit in your diet, wh...

Preferred exercises for different muscles

I know there's not really a right or wrong answer for most of these, but does anyone have any insights into the pros and cons of different ways to exercise different muscle groups, or any reasons at all for their preferences. Some of the ones in particular that interest me are... Chest: Dumbbell vs ...

You don't say how long you've been lifting ("started awhile ago".) Once you've been lifting for a year or two you'll be able to lift so much weight that you won't need to work out as much and will actually need a rest. As a beginner I worked out constantly and it worked for me but now that I've bee...

Thanks for the comments. That's something I've been wondering about. I've been debating about scheduling an off day between legs and arms. Right now I don't have any scheduled off days but don't workout when I have a tennis match and take a true rest day when I'm especially busy or especially sore, ...

Any comments on workout?

I started lifting and exercising regularly a while ago. Up until recently my primary diet/workout goals have been fat loss (I was about 160 with circa 25% fat when I started). I think I've finally got myself to a good place there (135 with circa 10% fat now), my primary interest now is to put on som...
