You guys are the ones with the experience, but I'll throw in my 2 cents based on what I know. If you're talking about pure muscle, technically a pound of protein contains only about 1800 calories, whereas a pound of fat contains about 4100 calories. The number 3500 is probably a weighted average or ...

How long ago did you start back up with these exercises? I know I've felt the same way with some exercises in the first few weeks I start a workout. Basically your nervous system doesn't know how to recruit your muscles correctly when you haven't worked them out for a long time, so it just kinda use...

Yeah that seems like a pretty lame gym if you can't grunt... seems like normal behavior. I wonder if they really expect people to lift weights quietly, or if they're just talking about the loud obnoxious stuff. I said that I grunt on the poll, although now that I think about it I probably don't make...

Thanks TimD, I think I'll take your advice and switch to DB bench with the semi-supinated grip for awhile.

Hey I've got bench press woes of a different sort... I hate starting a new thread every time so I figured I'd post my question here. I've been working on my bench for the last month and a half and I've gotten up to 8 reps at 145 lbs. I want to keep progressing but the last week or so my left shoulde...

Yeah actually it was the pullovers that I used to do to try and widen my ribcage.

I remember wanting to broaden my shoulders & ribcage when I was a teenager. Like Ryan said, exercising isn't gonna make it happen -- but time and patience will. Shoulder exercises are good, but I agree with TimD -- work on your back (especially lats) to widen your frame.

Interesting... I love eggs but I've always been a little weary of overdoing them do to the high cholesterol content. I'll have to do some research on cholesterol.

Thanks, that's good advice. I'm glad you noticed that I go to the gym before I eat because I actually wanted to ask about that too. Do you really think it's ok to chug something right before working out though? I know the body has to divert blood flow to the digestive system to digest food, and that...

2 Questions - Diet budget and total calories

Hey guys, I have a couple questions for you. They're pretty broad I suppose, but I'm just looking for suggestions. My first question is what's good to eat with my schedule and budget? My typical schedule is: I get up at 5:30 in the morning and go lift weights, then I have a few minutes for breakfast...

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better about my workouts. Also maybe encourages me about doing squats and stuff that make it hard to walk the next day, haha.

Not feeling sore... am I working hard enough?

Hello. I'm 22 years old, 5'10" 150 lbs. I'm a pretty scrawny guy and I've picked up (and dropped) weight lifting several times in the last, oh, 7 years or so. I'm not completely inexperienced at weight training, but I haven't managed to stick to a program for more than a few months at a time. I just...
