NEW GUY, WEIGHING IN ON THIS ONE

I just want to put in my 2 cents... take it for what it's worth... I have diligently (if I spelled that right) studied the ACSM guidelines, I have read every word they put out over and over and over again. At first, being a former big power lifter, I thought, what a crock of sht, but after learning ...

I could have wrote that a lot better...

High Intensity makes you lose fat too was one of my points I don't think I came across clearly about... you just have to have adequate nutrition for it to work right.

True that tim. I am an avid runner too, I ran 15 miles the day before yesterday, and 2 miles yesterday, today I am going to swim a couple miles, I am very active outside of the gym (I'm a full time personal trainer, so it is easy to get my weight routine done everyday)... Anyway, yeah, nothing like ...

I'm not completly discounting the afterburn, I am saying that it doesn't have that great of an impact on your total caloric expediture... For a bout of resistance training, the Resting Met Rate is only about 100 kcals over the next 24 hours (total), and it is transient, it leaves after that point. T...

I know I said I wasn't going to post here again, but this is a little different. I am a trainer, I have a lot of success turning those Cardio Queens into Ripped Chicks, with and without weights, the reason that those Cardio Queens aren't losing weight has nothing to do with them not lifting weights....

PERSONAL TRAINER CERTIFICATION: REAL QUESTION/OPINIONS

I'm an ACSM trainer myself, but recently I have taken on the task of training a few guys to become personal trainers. They all have been working out for a long time, they have the look. One benched 385 at his best, and when he was in high school ran the 100 meter in 10.72 (his best time, shattered o...

Dude, are you trying to make me look stupid or something? Yeah, I know the difference, and type 1 is always a disfunction of the pancrease, not usually, but always. Yeah, I know the difference, as a matter of fact... Never mind. I'm not posting on this particular topic anymore, this is what I hate a...

I think we are all splitting hairs. I guess that is my fault, I didn't read the post that started this part of this conversation, I just skimmed it. Trying to be illustrative over the internet is a little hard, but basically what I was getting at is that cutting out carbs to control blood sugar isn'...

Hey bro, the reason I threw out that bit about my dad wasn't to compare type 1 to type 2, but... whether it's blood sugar controlled through your body or external mean (injections), it is similar, there are several types of insulin, both within the body, and injectibles, etc... yeah, I know, but blo...

It goes a little deeper than those type of studies... You have to remember, carbs are NOT the only thing that affects blood sugar. I mean, what is a protein??? it's a carbohydrate with amino acids stuck to it. Basically, and that is how the body treats it, like it's carbon with amino acids stuck to ...

Hey, I'm not a gymnist or anything, but I had a good friend that was on an elite gymnastic team, they did half time shows for the NBA and stuff... Anyway, I went down to their gym and worked out with them, they taught me to tumble (which I haven't even thought of attempting to do in years), anyway.....

Re: opinions

Everyone else has stated their opinions, so I'll throw mine in as well. :) My favorite site for nutrition info: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/pyramids.html That's the Harvard School of Public Health. That page discusses the deficiencies of the USDA Food Pyramid (odd that the organizat...

The food pyramid is exactly what the ACSM suggest, it is based on solid science, and I don't think it differentiates between any types of fats, just that you shouldn't eat a ton of meat, eat more veggies 3-5 servings a day, eat some fruit, and don't use too many oils and added sugars... Grains conta...
