Re: Resistance training for older age
I'm wondering if Gemfribrozil falls into the statin catagory Gemfibrizil is a bile acid sequestrant, so it works by a different mechanism than the statins. It, like the statins and all medications, has side effects, but like the statins and all other medications (a risky generalization here), the s...

Re: Resistance training for older age
Frank, I'm not ignoring your question, it's just that I don't know anymore than a Google search would turn up. Jungledoc might know but I assume he didn't see this. Josh, just so you know I'm not just blowing smoke about Paleo as a treatment for Metabolic Syndrome, I offer these references as backg...

Re: Resistance training for older age
The low glycemic carb thing only works in heathy populations. It does nothing to significantly improve metabolic syndrome. There is a mystical assumption that there are nutritional benefits from grains. That's only true relative to the normal crap diet. Read "The Paleo Solution" by Rob Wolfe or "Th...

Re: Anyone use/used B-lastics bands
If there is anyone who knows about a weider max with a preacher attachment, and if they have used the BL's, in your opinion would the BL thake the place of the weider? Wouldn't mind getting it out of the garage.

Re: Anyone use/used B-lastics bands
I couldn't any reference to B-lastic but I'm going to assume your meant bodylastic. http://www.bodylastics.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/BLSET81.jpg Assuming you have a high anchor, either the top of the door or an eye-bolt in the ceiling, you should be able get a whole body workout with them. The...

Anyone use/used B-lastics bands
I bought a 70 buck set a while back and used it about 5 times, but found using my fake bowflex (weider) with a few dumbbells easier to use. Can a decent workout be had with these things for a 64 year old [email protected]@t? One plus is that I could use them in the house instead of the weider in the cold garage. T...

Re: probiotics
Sorry Rik, this is what happens when you get old and senile. Your brains fall out, and you can't tell when someone is joking. My bad.

Re: probiotics
Do a Google search on home made probiotics, and you will see It's very easy (a little messy) to make. I found a 1.5 gal. glass jar with glass lid for under 15 bucks at Walmart? You can tell It's working by eating a little too much and getting a minor stomach ache. At least that tells you the good b...

Re: probiotics
Just make your own probiotics and at least you know stuff is in it. Even the best probiotic caps might have nothing in them at times. Just get a bunch of cabage, maybe some onions and garlic (thats how I make it) and a carrot or two, put it in a food processor to shread up, add a little canning salt...

Re: Substitutes for bench and shoulder press
Thanks guys, I sure hope these things work because now that I think about it, this problem has been with me for a while now, and at 63 it makes me think age has caught up with me. I sure hope not, as I can't imagine getting older and not being able to work out. Thats what keeps you young!

Re: Substitutes for bench and shoulder press
Frank, heavens knows I've busted up my shoulders more times than I can remember over the years. Let's go with prehab, warm up ideas before getting into substitutes. Over the years, I've become a big fan of Istvan Javorek's complexes, and like to use 2 not only for prehab/rehab, but a time or 2 thro...

Re: Substitutes for bench and shoulder press
Franks, it's good to see you're stil out there. A lot of shoulder issues can be corretced by doing more rowing. Do lots of volume of both vertical and horizontal rows. Do you have any more specific description of your issue? ^^This and... If I have a client with shoulder pain, I can still usually g...
