The 1 hour is a guideline to avoid cortisol buildup. It's dependent on how intense your workout is. If your walk is not strenuous it shouldn't interfere with your workout at all. I wouldn't count that in your hour. Still, I see no benefit from the bike. The walking and resistance training is suffic...

Resistance training/aerobics question

Hi folks, I haven't posted in a few years as I have a bad back. Now it's better, so I'm using the same old (POC) Weider Advantage with some dumbells, and I'm 62. I have to walk my dog for about 45min. each morning, and after that, I work out on the weider, (M-W-F) then do about 30 min. on the recumb...

Thanks guy's. Will stick with m-w-f, then change when i have to. With so much info out there, it's hard to figure out whats right. Also, the light-heavy push-pull stuff sounds good.

Thanks Stephen. Still wondering if at some point i should switch from doing full body workouts 3 times per week, to 2 full body workouts per week? Seems like i read that when you stop getting gains on three full body workouts, you then switch to full body twice per week. Yes?

Workout timming question for A 60 yr. old kid

You guy's suggested that for such a young beginner as myself, to do full body workouts 3 times per week, so i'm doing m-w-f with walking at the end of each workout. Was wondering if i could space the workouts lets say m-thurs-sun, w-sat-tues. etc. getting two days rest between workouts? Also, at som...

Walk - weight question

I'm 60. Need to drop 30lbs. Full body workouts (using bow flex type machine) m-w-f., and have been doing a 10 min. warm up on a recumbent, (bad back) with work out (for now) taking about 30 min., and 30 min. walk - hike after workout with much stretching. Was wondering if I should do my walking on s...

Re: I guess my main question is hitting the same muscle grou

[I don't have the luxury to have a p. t. to help out, so it's hit and miss, only this time i can't miss. All i have is you guys. So far it's working, i just can't do anything that aggravates my back. I did a Google search and came up with this site for lower back exercises. Treating your lower back...

How fast your body recovers is dependent on how hard you train. I would stick to 3 days a week full body but if you feel like you need to take a break do it. Listen to your body. Unless you're training brutally hard you should try to hit each body part at least twice a week in oder to maintain cond...

I guess my main question is hitting the same muscle groups

[q 3 times per wk. as in full body workouts, or should i still work out 3 days per wk., but hit groups only once per wk. as in: monday, half upper, wensday, other half upper, and friday, legs. I don't have the luxury to have a p. t. to help out, so it's hit and miss, only this time i can't miss. All...

More questions from the old f$$t. Again?

Hi folks, Thought you were done with me didn't you? Not! Was posting a while back and got a lot of great advice from you for a 59 yr. old out of shape guy who was sick and tired of being sick and tired, and wanted to start working out with a weider max (poor mans bow flex). After getting all that gr...

I think yiour plan is pretty sound to start off with. The warm up of 4-10 mins of some light to moderate cardio is a good idea. It will get the blood flowing. After that, do 1-2 warm up sets with a very light weight to get the motion/patterns down and get the specific muscles warmed up, then 1-2 mo...

Frank, I'm beginning to feel young at 50. You should try to do some back exercises, even if it's unweighted. If you have a bad back there is probably a reason and that's probably not using it enough. Take it slow and keep progressing. As you progress, full body 3 times a week will probably be ok bu...
