Spread-eagle stretch thing
I have no idea what this stretch is called (groin stretch, maybe), but it's pretty familiar-- you sit on the ground with legs spread in front of you and then try to lower your face, bending at the waist, towards the ground. I cannot do this to any reasonable extent. In fact, I cannot even sit uprigh...

protein etc
As for protein, you could try casein powder instead of whey (if you were using whey), but my guess is that it'll have a similar negative reaction. If that's the case then, yup, just go for protein-rich foods. It doesn't have to be just chicken. Things that are easier to prepare, like a can of tuna o...

I'll leave the lifting questions to others. I'd say most generally stay diverse. It will prevent plateaus which are wasted time and, more importantly, frustration. The belly fat is difficult. The standard response is "do cardio." This is true but since you're wanting to not lose muscle it's not the ...

i'd like to second that motion. since i've been asking questions here (and getting answers) i've seen results on the basis of this info. i've gotten stronger (more protein-- stu, stephen j.), kept cardio with my HIIT (Tim), getting my knee problem straightened out (Ironman and a bunch of you) and fi...

no doubt
$10 a month is a steal.... definitely worth it. Once you're out of school and making the big bucks (I'm still waiting for that to happen with me) you can splurge at Ohio State.

A very good possible solution
Ok...did a bit of poking around. You can join Ohio State's rec center if you get an existing member (faculty, student or staff) to sponsor you. The membership works out to be about $40 a month. The facilities (there are 4 centers) are top notch and include expert trainers (it is Ohio State, after al...

You might check out your local YMCA. They differ from center to center, but most have good gym outlets. Mine was amazing-- the majority of it was a weight floor where a bunch of amateur (but very dedicated and very big) body builders did their power lifts. Lots of space and the right basic equipment...

Protein spread
Hello everyone, I'm curious to know what people think about protein consumption; not just how much, but how to modulate it throughout the day. I'm starting with the rule of 1.2--1.8g protein per kg body mass. Fair enough. Puts me at around 120 grams a day (just invested in 5lbs of MRM whey). How, th...

thanks for the tips. I've started doing Romanian Deadlifts with ad hoc weight, as well as Good Mornings. I do them one handed-one legged, though in reality I need to find heavier weight and do the exercises with improved form. I'll try the couch-bench thing. I find also that paying attention to lowe...

weights and wu's
Started using a backpack full of sand-filled 2 liter water bottles to do shoulder press. Not that much weight, to be honest (maybe around 35lb), but as part of a very fast circuit it has its value. I'm trying to move to more intensive bodyweight exercises: planche pushup, dragon flags, one arm pullu...

What's it called?
I blanked on the name of an exercise. I think it might be dragonflies (?). The deal is you lie on a decline (or flat) bench, gripping something up top. Keep everything except for shoulders off of the bench and then raise legs (and torso, partly) up to 90 degrees and slowly lower. Lowering is pretty ...

thanks
thanks for the responses. I have spoken with a couple docs about it. They are all fairly vague about treatment, but specific about the cause. The most solid response is about stretching the hams, ice, and anti-inflammatories all of which does help. I'll follow the links and also, Ironman, what you s...
