Re: Want information on Yoga for Rheumatoid Arthritis.

This isn't exactly and answer to your question, but it is related. It's a link to a summary of an article about a mega analysis of studies about yoga and quigong for low back pain in the elderly. Spoiler: no help. http://www.univadis.com/viewarticle/yoga-qigong-ineffective-for-chronic-low-back-pain-...

Re: Where's Doc been, and what's he been up to?

And, by the way, when you say that you don't have any experience working with my condition, I'd guess that you actually do, but that the clients have carried a different label, like "arthritis of the spine" or "degenerative disc disease" or something. The "spondyloarthropies" are a group of diseases...

Re: Where's Doc been, and what's he been up to?

Kenny--thanks for this thoughtful post. I'll quote parts of it and respond and ask questions. I don't have any experience with your condition but recently have worked with or currently still training clients with some pretty messed up spines (and hips) - I get referrals from a few physios and a few ...

Re: Where's Doc been, and what's he been up to?

Doc, I'm on my way to work so I have to be brief. My wife had degenerative disks in her 40s without any lifting but on the other hand, Ronnie Coleman just had his hips replaced. Certainly heavy lifting can make things worse or it can help, depending on the situation. There have been people come by ...

Re: Where's Doc been, and what's he been up to?

Yeah, both Kenny and Stu--like old times! Now it's "really old time"! I think I'm going to go to bed and answer this later, both my observations and some questions. Fatigue is a big symptom of spondylo arthritis, and, much to my surprise and dismay, lack of sleep makes the whole thing worse. So my 5...

You mean the link that Stu just posted? It worked for me just now.
Or do you mean that lifting kettlebells doesn't work? I haven't tried it enough to know!

Sorry, but I don't follow you here. Could you explain a little more how you see this working?

Re: Anxiety/ panic attacks while lifting

I'm guessing that the person who posted this in July of 2014 isn't still around looking for additional answers! Since I missed this thread when it was fresh and new, since the post 2 before this one contains some misinformation, I'll post enough to correct that. Panic attacks and hyperventilation ar...

Re: How do I become a personal trainer? I have no idea!

Tyler--are you aware of trainer who do small group training? In short, a trainer trains a group of 3-5 clients at the same time. I've seen it in action in a friend's facility, and it works well. When the client is new the trainer needs to spend 1 on 1 time with them, assessing, teaching basic exerci...

Re: Pull Up Training

The best advice I have for pull-ups is just to do them randomly throughout the day and not particularly to failure except maybe once a week. When I had to pull apart my house this is what I would do and my overall pool of strength went through the roof I've seen or heard this suggestion before, and...

Re: Steve's Journal Comments

I posted results in my journal. Main points: 1. Deadlift felt unusually heavy this time around. It was unexpected. 2. I'm concerned with stretching out the strength component I may lose some strength. 3. I am considering focusing on the endurance portion. (From log) Deadlift - 3x3 200, 235, 255, 31...
