Welcome back, Peter. I can't really say that I missed you since I'm new and haven't known you here. I enjoy watching MMA, and used to train under a MMA fighter in my Taekwando days, and I have served as fight doctor at MMA events, so I understand a little of the mentality of someone who gets their o...

Well, you'll probably only be able to answer the question through experience. If you stop running and you are able to keep the fat off the way you want, then it's probably fine. You can do other things, too; swim, dance, do any of those stupid machines at the gym (any elliptical lovers, please forgi...

### Re: Newb Question on Walking+Weights

I am wondering that if I decide to stop running, but choose to actively walk for at least 45 minutes a day, if that walking is enough cardio for me? Enough cardio for what purpose? General health? Prep for a marathon? Endurance for some other activity? If your goal from the walking or running or wh...

Nelson--What are you using the calculation for? Comparing one athlete with another? Measuring your own progress over time? I'd think that if it's not for some scientific study where precision is essential, that you could just pick a method and use it consistently.

Your 8.5 kg DBs are just under 19 lb. Multiply Kg by 2.2 to get lb, divide lb by the same to get kg.

Thanks, guys. My son is all freaked out because we haven't lifted for six days (we usually lift together), and says that he's going to work out today whether I do or not, cause he's sure that he'll lose ground otherwise. I keep telling him that a week or two off won't make much difference, but I'm j...

How I read RenExi's post was this (and it's something I've wondered about for a while): If I miss workouts, how long will it take for me to start losing strength? That's on my mind this week, as I've been sick and too wiped out to work out. If I miss a week, will I be able to take up where I left of...

I did martial arts for years, so everything feels more natural to me barefoot. I lift in a small weight room shared by about 10 friends, so no one objects. I personally don't think there is a good reason for gyms to require shoes, but telling them that some guy on ExRx forum said so probably won't m...

### Low back pain after lifting

My back hurts. Started while squatting a week ago. Squatting is fairly new to me; I learned form from a friend at first (but he's not around any more) and then from descriptions and videos on various websites (including this one). I've been looking the the SquatRx videos this weekend. I had a bit of...

KPj--When I was reading through this thread last night, I stopped and looked up some hip stretches and tried a few a couple of times each. My back actually started feeling better. Thanks. I'll start doing some of that and some overhead squats in my warm up, and work some bridging into my workout.

I was debating whether to jump in here or to start a new thread about low back pain. But first I wanted to clarify a couple of things. 1. What is "1 leg RDL"? 2. Tim, you talk about using overhead squats for warm up. What weights do you use for this? Relatively light, I presume. You do them everyday...

How about a new reality show, something like "Joe's Gym." Or Joe's Jym or Goe's Gym. Camera is running in the local sweat palace--follows the regulars around their workouts--they mumble, grunt and sweat a lot.

At least as exciting as a lot of what's on.

I get about 5 hours on weeknights. Most of the time I function well on this, as long as I get some catch-up on weekends. Lately I'm coming to realize that I need more. Trouble is that I'm really a night person, but I have a morning person's job. So having said that, I'd better stop surfing the forum...

I agree with what Matt said. I think you should continue to take this seriously. Don't do the kind of exercise that has provoked these episodes until the problem is clearly diagnosed and treated. You said that you had a "heart test" but that could cover dozens of tests. I think a stress test should ...
