Either case sounds pretty good. You're probably strong enough to do much more right now even, but there's something to be said for allowing your muscles to learn the exercise before piling on tons of weight. Tapering the volume down or adding weight faster would allow that to happen. You're doing ri...

If you don't mind my asking, what are you at with DL and squat right now?

I typically rack it. Sometimes with DB incline press I'll drop the last ~12" and with OL cleans or such I will drop the last 6-12". The DB's I have at my workplace gym are rubber so thats not an issue, and i have 1" thick 2'x2' rubber pads to throw the O bar down on (but I don't want to do it from a...

I recall reading in the Rippetoe Starting Strength Faq listed in the exercise routines sticky that the DL's are done after squats because you need your back for the squat form, but are still capable of DL's after, and not the other way around. It may be the same rationale at play with the number of ...

Well I have a little bit of that condition myself. I am currently doing physical therapy for my shoulders and we are addressing that in the process. My (albeit little) knowledge is that you should strengthen the serratus anterior, trapezius, rotator cuff, rhomboids and teres minor muscles. The regim...

Ok I'm with you now. Yeah I don't mind doing that, the planets won't come out of alignment or anything because I changed the periodization of my workout.

Tim, a few questions: Push 2 Go to about 90% of cleans, in 2's for 2-3 sets, then hit about 3 work sets of either front or back squats, 3-5 reps. This is assuming you want to adapt to an OL format for this. Do you mean switch my squat form to OL? I believe that I've seen two different definitions of...

Would a smith machine work for coming up out of the hole from a dead stop? I have that or just a power rack without adjustable hooks, a waist high hook and a shoulder high one, as seen in the video. How do you mean about my training schedule? I haven't deviated much from the above posts of my traini...

So I never really got much feedback from the youtube video other than Tim and Matt, others help would be greatly appreciated if anybody has some good stuff for me to work on. I'm also noticing that I'm having a hard time with front full squats. Tim told me that my OL clean would be lower than my fro...

It's always important to clean your neapolitan mastiff too! Those wrinkles can be trouble.

Matt, I don't think its my ankle flexibility that you saw being the issue in the video, it's my hips. I'm working on hamstring flexibility but I had Perthe's disease as a child and my right hip joint doesn't have the complete ROM that it should.

Yeah I thought I saw that too. Took some tips from squat rx #1 and am working on it. Tim pointed out that I'm not shrugging enough at the top of the third pull (before pulling myself under the bar, think that the top of the jump is the third pull) and I noticed that I'm not fully extending or "openi...

I read somewhere that chucks aren't recommended for things like full squats because the high top can restrict ROM, but how would mid or lowtop chucks work as a readily available alternative?

Sources for weightlifting shoes

I was curious if anybody knows of a decent place to get weightlifting shoes at any kind of discount. The page on exrx lists the VS Athletics at $50, but the best I can find online is $72. Otherwise, anybody have a pair of used shoes size 12-13 that are still useable? Thanks,
