Cutting Fat

I'm lifting four days a week and eating relatively healthy... I am not losing any weight and seem to be stuck at 200 lbs. I am seeing some muscle definition, so maybe I am replacing some fat with muscle. How do I burn up some fat. Hours of cardio does not seem to be the answer because it interferes ...

HIIT - Guidance please...

My son is 15 and trying to bulk up. At the same time, he is getting in shape for football and wants to work on legs/explosiveness/speed. I don't think he needs long, slow cardio... I believe he needs HIIT, but what form should that take? 100 yard wind sprints? How much rest in between? 40 yard sprin...

So... Is it carbs or protein or both? I guess from what I've gathered, it would be both... before, during AND after! Am I correct in that assumption? Does anyone have a recipe they can share? Also, how long before? Seems like there is some leeway on the tail-end (post workout).

Protein Before or After a workout?

From something I read.... "A 2001 study at the University of Texas found that lifters who drank a shake containing amino acids and carbohydrates before working out increased their protein synthesis (their ability to build muscle) more than lifters who drank the same shake after exercising. Since exe...

He definitely likes to hit! I'm not sure about the offense. I want to say "I" with him down in front of the halfback. He did a lot of lead blocking last year...

Thanks everyone! Great advice (as always... I might add...) I will discuss each of these with him...

I especially like the emphasis on legs... He needs that explosiveness!

High School Football

My son is 15 and wants to bulk up for fall football (American). He wants to be stronger and also quick. He is about 140 lbs and seems to be a hardgainer... or maybe he's just young! He has started lifting free weights in the garage and is visibly becoming more defined, but has not gained any weight....

Basically, I would like to decrease body fat and build muscle. I have been in and out of the gym for the past ten years. I went through a fairly intense program ~ 10 years ago that achieved my goals, but i had a trainer that led me through it. It is very different when I am doing it alone.

Routine and Reps

My lifting routine is Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri... One week: Arms, Chest & Shoulders, Back, Legs respectively... Next week: Back & Biceps, Chest & Triceps, Shoulders, Legs respectively. 3 sets of each exercise 12 reps. Does this sound reasonable? What about the flat bench. Seems like years past, I did f...

Well... I slowly gained but not up to my pre-program weight. When I worked out (and even now), I notice that I am much stronger and my muscles respond much quicker than that initial phasing in... so my muscles must have been getting some attention. Also, I know that my arms and legs bulked up quite ...

And oh.... Stu... I am currently 45 years old and seem to be able to lift and run better than I did 10 years ago when I started that program. It was hard to go 20 minutes of cardio to start, but now 30 minutes is relatively easy. Also, the "muscle memory" is still there. I can feel my muscles respon...
