Re: Convincing my fiancee to lift weights

Truth is, she has to get there when she gets there. I've been married for over 11 years now and learned that nagging isn't the way to achieve ANYTHING!! Man support her in her endeavor and let her know that if she has any questions about anything to feel free to ask. Also when my wife decided she wa...

Re: Tough Mudder in October: Need a training Plan

One of my buddies convinced me to try INSANITY. Now I know it's not the end all for training for Tough Mudder, but I will admit, it will smoke you! It can serve as a very valuable tool as Interval training is the primary focus of the program. Add that in with the rest of your training, remember just...

Re: Tough Mudder in October: Need a training Plan

WOW!! That's what I'm talking about, I'll be participating in the Mid Atlantic Toughmudder on Sat September 8th!! I've been looking for specified training as well, I'll be watching this post closely! The team I'm on is called Jimmy Jank! Don't ask, I didn't name it, but we're going to rock it! :laug...

Re: Pull-up Challenge, 2012

Ok my goal is 13 solid pullups. I use a P90x bar and do 4 sets of pullups. Wide grip, medium grip, neutral grip, and close grip. Shoot for the moon, that way if you miss you will land amongst the stars!

Re: Pull-up Challenge, 2012

Yeah man, just do plain pullups. Although I know how to kip, I don't do it because I've always felt that it was cheating.

Re: Pull-up Challenge, 2012

I'm in. At first I was just going to forgo it for another year, but why not. I'll just incorporate the pullups into my current workout routine. I'm currently 5' 10", 173lbs (hence leanmuscle) my max number of pullups is 8-10 then the numbers decrease as the sets increase! :) I don't have a plan to f...

Re: How Long will a 50% quad tear take to heal

Jungle Doc, I've got a question. It has been 8+ years since my injury and although I still lead an active lifestyle, my biggest fear is when I become old. Do you think this injury is possibly debilitating? If so is the surgery possible now 8 years later? I was 25 when it occurred and I was overseas ...

Re: How Long will a 50% quad tear take to heal

Sorry Steward, I didn't realize you had posted before I put my post up. But your assessment sounds very true. I really cannot squat alot at all ( 225lbs in peak condition) and tend to focus on leg extensions and hamstring curls. I do this to strengthen the supporting quadriceps muscles as I will nee...

Re: How Long will a 50% quad tear take to heal

As far as I know, surgery is the only way that an injury like this can be repaired completely and correctly. I have seen information where physical therapists perform some sort of massage to manipulate the injured area, but I don't know if that is done to repair it or what.

Re: How Long will a 50% quad tear take to heal

I have some experience in this area. I have a complete tear of the Rectus Femoris tendon in my right leg and a partial tear of the same tendon in my left. Neither have been surgically repaired. I can walk fine, I can run, I can squat. Now I have no way of knowing if I had them repaired if my legs wo...

Re: Are the plastic saw horses really good enough?

Thanks Jungledoc! I just wanted to know as I will be testing my limits soon (within reason), and I work out alone. I just wanted to be sure that if a "worst case scenario" occurs my horses will stand to the occasion. Thanks again!

Are the plastic saw horses really good enough?

Hello all, A couple of years ago I read on this website where you can use saw horses in lieu of having to get a powercage. I did this because I do not have room for a powercage and frankly although I would love to say that I'm a heavy lifter I have to admit I'm still a novice to intermediate dependi...
