Thanks for the input guys .. and I agree with Stu I would classify myself as a slacker for not paying proper attention to prevent hurting my back .. so based on the inputs I've adjusted as follows: Monday (squat - heavy, push, pull) Squat ramped 5x5, Bench ramped 5x5, Hang Cleans ramped 5x5 Wednesda...

I like it. I like lean routines. I do worry about the lack of overhead pressing, pulling and DL, though. Will you just progress the loading a set amount every week? hmm .. on the light day (Wednesday) should I replace Squats with Deadlifts, and Bench Press with Military Presses? I plan to ramp squa...

Routine Critique -- Too Much?

I've pulled/strained/hurt a muscle in my lower back twice from squatting in the last 3 months (not sure what term I should use to mean it's feeling pretty good after two weeks of doing nothing). I did figure out what I did wrong on my Squat form (I got lazy, over confident, and sloppy). So starting ...

Wait a minute. I thought guns were illegal in England. How can it be that criminals have guns if they are illegal? Guns aren't illegal. People can have them but you have to pass a strict vetting process. Most criminals guns are either smuggled in, or are conversions from non-firing replicas to real...

In addition to form, do you focus on tightening your "core" at the beginning of each rep? KPj has the best explanation of this I've seen--it's what you would do if someone were about to punch you in the stomach, and you knew the punch was coming. Basically you'd tighten everything up at once--trans...

So what I want to get into now is something more interest and/or dividend based, like bond funds or preferred securities. ... I'll check out the books. Benjamin Graham is a good resource for Bond and Preferred Security information (he is old school, but his philosophies are still sound - in my opin...

Sorry guys, by "blow out" I mean it took only one rep to make my lower back hurt like hell forcing me to put down the weight "quickly" and go home .. on the drive home every bump I hit just made me cringe with pain. Didn't mean to make it sound like I racked up 500 lbs and then suddenly exploded. I ...

Re: investing

We had another topic regarding this earlier. However this time I want to see if there are any people knowledgeable about such things here. I feel the need to change my investment strategy to something I know very little about. I know we at least had an accountant. Any knowledgeable investors out th...

This is getting annoying

I've pulled a muscle in my lower back for the second time in 8 weeks when doing Squats (a pulled muscle is my best guess as to the pain I'm in - keeping mobile or adding ice-n-heat makes it feel a "bit" better - ie. sitting all day at my desk makes the pain worse). Eight weeks ago, my lower back ble...

My Drill Instructors weren't much for waiting .. so during the "Hurry Up and Wait" periods .. we were doing push-ups. The only thing I think I didn't like about boot was the 25 mile road march.

edit: Otherwise I thought it was a great experience.

Re: My local gym is......

Heh, that's nothing. I read about some gyms from the same line of gyms I work out in that one guy was forbidden to do the deadlift because everytime he went back down and the weights touched the floor, it was a bit noisy. On top of that, chalk isn't allowed. heh ... A co-worker of mine (while he wa...

Not sure about that. The dropout rate for prospective Seals is HUGE. Seems the program is designed mainly to weed out all but the fittest and toughest (mentally and physically). Yep, it's things like hanging out in 50 degree water that turns folks off, although to a Canadian like stuward .. that mi...
