The rice cakes are a mixed grain thin biscuit type thing. I probably have about 6 a day and they have about 5g carbs (less than 1g sugar) and 23cals each. I just eat them as a substitute for bread and other snacks like chips and stuff. I actually don't mind them at all. So are the almonds and trail ...

Carb and Calorie Cycling

About a year ago I went on Lite n Easy for about 3 months and lost about 9 kilos. Towards the end, it was getting far more difficult to lose any weight. I got down to about 74 and then it just stopped. So I started doing weights and eating more and bunged on about 6kgs of muscle and a couple kilos o...

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'll start doing all my back work underhanded, and add some curls to the end the way pdellorto suggested. By the way, what's a superset? Does it just mean lots of reps with less weight? Or the opposite?

Ha.
Nah not too big... My biceps just aren't big enough.
Yeah I might try close grip underhand chin-ups for a while.

Cheers.

Proportions -- need a new routine

I've been doing the Mahler routine for a while now, and I'm starting to notice that my shoulders and lats are getting pretty big, but my biceps aren't really changing at all. I'm starting to look a bit out of proportion. I dropped the leg excercises and have been doing HIIT sprints instead, but I th...

yeah I stretch all the time. Before and after... I'm just gonna jog shorter distances but do it all as fast as I can. So put some up hill sprints and stuff in there. I might start doing a bit of swimming too. I don't think it's the shoes. I read a thing that said shoes make almost no difference at a...

I also prefer to do the run after the weights. I find that I can sort of power through the weights, with minimal time between sets, and then just run straight out the door. So my heart rate's already cranking when I start running.

Running, weights and soreness.

A couple months ago I started back on the Mahler workout routine but had to stop the squats and deadlifts due to soreness. I also started running a couple months back. A typical week would go like this. Monday - run half hour non-stop (about 5ks) Tuesday - 3 sets shoulder presses and 3 set pull-ups ...

Want to up the ante a bit

I've been doing compund exercises for a few months now, and have noticed great difference in strength and size, but now that I've finished uni for a few months, I want to excercise more regularly focusing on less muscle groups each day, but doing more reps of each excercise. So is this plan any good...

That is mental. Yeah I might give that a try. What do you mean you get a rest of 40 seconds (double tabata)? I thought the whole thing was 4 minutes... Like 20 on, 10 off, for 8 rounds. Or do you mean mean like 2 x 1 minute rounds of tabata? I want to come up with a circuit thing I can do on my days...

Yeah I did it the other day for the first time.
I did pushups for the first 4 and then shoulder lat raises for the second 4.

I think mixing it up a bit is good because it allows you to keep your heart rate up but you can keep going until the end without absolutely exhausting your muscles.

Alright I did it!

Pushups for the first four rounds (numbers like 30, 25, 20, 18) and then lateral raises for the second four rounds (I couldn't count. I was just too exhausted).

I am buggered. But it's good. It sure as hell works. I'm gonna go and eat a couple cows now.

Yeah I think I'll give that a go then. I'll just reduce the weight and concentrate on not shrugging my shoulders.
Could I add a few sets of dumbbell lateral raises at the end of the workout?

Maybe I could do tabata dumbbell lateral raises on that day...

Shoulder proportion problems

So I've been doing the Mahler starting strength workout, as I have mentioned in about 1000 other posts, including ones on other forums about cooking and televisions. It's going really well, but I have one problem... and here it is... My traps are out of proportion. I have naturally large traps, and ...
