Probably conventional dead lifts. They make you feel like All-That-Is-Man. Which I think is what Apocalypton was saying. Was going to say squats but for me they are more of a love/hate thing. Love the satisfaction of punching out a new PB, but they can be pretty tough when you're in the hole. Comple...

Stuward, Apocalypton, that's exactly what I used to do throughout pretty much my first two years lifting. I had stalled on just about all of my lifts with my squat around 102.5 and my bench around 60ish. I've found after the last nine months or so where I've been doing some Max-OT, and mixed in with...

Program to focus on upper body.
Hi all, There has been a bit of talk in here recently on strength standards (across a few different threads). All of which point towards a bit of a deficit in my pressing/rowing vs. my lower body strength. To give an indication, here are some recent figures at bodyweight ~68 kgs: Squat: 3x6x107.5 kg...

Apocalypton, you are a regular on this board and you seem to do a lot of research, and think things through. Just wondering what your justification is for sticking with a program which is so heavily maching oriented? Surely your frequenting of this board and research wouldn't conclude such a program...

Either of those links looks fine. It's what you see most people doing for deadlifts in commercial gyms. Very few people in my gym lift from the floor. They even do these in "body pump" classes. Why don't you just try it with the bar only and see how your knee goes? A few reps with 20 kgs isn't going...

As another aside, one my girls just pulled 60KG (135lbs) for 5 reps. 2nd time deadlifting and 5th week of training. The guy this thread is about told me that if one of my girls DL or squat 100KG, he'll quit training. Well, i told this girl that and she's determined to be the first! I think she'll n...

Our gym has a physiotherapy firm operating inside it. They offer gym programs and a session to go through your workout and assess your form. I'm not sure how skeptical to be, so haven't taken them up on the offer yet. I think I'd be more likely to have a session with one of the PTs, who I have notic...

If your AFL training is anything like my mate's (lots of running) I wouldn't think you'd have to do any more cardio. Also I found that losing weight through weight training helped my ability to do long, slow cardio (running, anyway), so by improving your diet and weight training, you'll probably fin...

but how do you monitor progress? and then you won't progress as fast on what you left out. Plus...um change is scary. I always keep the big movements in my program which helps with monitoring progress. Reps and sets is generally what changes, plus maybe the variant of the movements. Sooner or later...
