was at the gym yesterday and there was a guy with his personal trainer doing bench press. thumbless grip.

i didn't say anything, but i seriously considered asking about it (in that "i'm asking you but really telling you" manner).

No, sorry for the confusion. Here's what I'm considering for now. M - squat, deadlift, bench/overhead (alternate), rows/pullups (alternate), etc Tu - cardio/rest W - same as Monday without deadlifts Th - cardio/rest F - same as Monday weekends, whatever I manage to get in. My only concern is that I ...

How often can I deadlift?

After a few months off for summer sports, I'll be getting back into the weight room, probably 3-4x a week. If I plan on squatting 3x a week (I suppose that would make it some variation of Starting Strength), is it too much to deadlift more than once a week? I like deadlifts, especially since I still...

Thanks for the help so far everyone -
The facilities are built but the gym is empty. Dimensions of the room are 21' x 15'. (yes, small).

Realistically, what can we fit in here? It's not likely that any more than 4 people will be there at the same time.

Re: "the pick something and get there " never work

however you could also say that a heavy load would cause damage to untrained skeleton structure (where the parameter for untrained is also "flexible") that is the reason i understand the primary recommendation to start with machines. As long as you start with a low-enough weight then the load won't...

My new breakfast

I think I've settled on a new favorite breakfast. Previously, my routine was generally cereal with 4g of fiber or more, but then I changed it to oatmeal with milk and raisins/blueberries. While initially trying to increase protein/decrease carbs, I dabbled in scrambled eggs with ham+broccoli+onion+s...

there are lots of coffee fiends out there. i too prefer my coffee black and unadulterated with fancy flavorings, and i usually end up drinking about 16-20 oz a day. at your amount per day, my only concerns would be bad breath, stained teeth (and it stains anything you spill on, including clothes - n...

i can't vote for any of the 3, since currently they're all there.

i suppose i could count it as eating, but the only thing in the way is partying/drinking on the weekends! Alcohol adds a lot of interference calories.

Lifting and leaning

I've decided that my goal has to be lower body fat. I'm still a relative novice although I've been lifting (off and on) for 18 months or so, because I'm still progressing quickly with my squats, deadlifts, and other exercises. I'm 5'10", maybe 170-175 lbs, unsure of BF% but neither lean nor fat. Squ...

what about turkey?? i picked chicken, only because turkey wasn't on there.

ground turkey is an excellent substitute for ground beef, and my lunch most days is a turkey sandwich.

beef is generally more work to prepare well.

why not regular back squats? they're the easiest BB equivalent to the leg press. also, most people recommend doing squats BEFORE deadlifts so that your back and legs have their "fresh" stability. i would rather not be able to complete my last deadlift rep, than a squat rep.

oh, my mistake - i just re-read and saw that you add a small piece of meat at lunch, so you're not a vegetarian then. Eat more meat! Chicken and turkey are versatile and relatively cheap ways to add protein to meals, and add fish in there once in a while too.

oats, beans, and pasta? nothing in your meal description sounds very low carb to me.

are you a vegetarian? where's your meat intake?
