Clean and jerks are a lot of fun but you need a few enablers; space to drop the bar and some training or studying. Try them when you feel ready. Warm ups are essential for 3x5. I like to do an empty bar for a few reps as a form rehersal, then a few reps at 50-60% and again at 80% load. Some like mo...

I dont know why I didnt keep it in my revised post (chopped out some garbage, but too much it seems) but I was going to say... ... I think I'll hit starting strength once I've lost some more fat, then I'll start on a sensible surplus and go for it. ... Having not looked into it too much - I've click...

Thanks KpJ Yea it was more about what everyone else was doing in the gym at first (the split) - I just had to emmulate those around me somewhat to feel comfortable - to do full body 3x a week would feel strange now but I really do listen to advice so Im going to have to seriously get it in my head t...

Disproportionate gains

Hi guys, long and short of it is - when you notice a specific area slacking (in my case, chest), how do you approach it? I realise that just hitting my chest twice as much likely wont do much, but I also know I am pushing for good form (to the best of my knowledge obviously, don't claim to have grea...

Boxer briefs *nod*

I remember doing a leg day with cheap normal boxers - the kind that are fine when stood up walking about but any movement like lunge/squat would be awful! never made that mistake again hehe.

Yea (sorry to add non-information but...) I've got this on my right forearm - it petrudes and feels ticklish and tight - I worried I was stressing it (moreso than anywhere else)

Unless it hurts or gets worse I think I'll just ignore it for now

Thanks a lot guys really helpful - don't know why I didn't think of mixed nuts - with those and my 2 fish (p/w) I'll be hitting some good fats - and as you say tim I guess the salad thing is essentially a sandwich without bread - I'll just do less of the chopping/buying variety and stick to the rock...

Ok - to keep it in one thread ... i'm just 5 sessions away (so just over one week) away from starting my defecit - I'm gunna aim for a low carb method (nothing crazy - not gunna do an idiots version of atkins...) basically replacing my morning porridge with scrambled eggs or omellete - my evening me...

Cheers Tim - I'll throw in 30 mins cardio with a poor attempt at HIIT on Thursdays to add to my *cough* "cutting" *cough* phase :)

Rather than make a brand new post..

I don't think I should make a new post just to ask this so... With a defecit with the intention of dropping 6-7lbs - will I need to add cardio to focus fat burning or will the defecit and my usual m/w/f lifting sessions shed/target mostly fat? Im going to shift my diet towards protein/fat and if I h...

Thanks for your help guys I think I will drop a few lbs just to see how I feel doing it and how much I notice a difference. If it doesn't feel right or my gains slow for a bit too long I'll go back to a few shakes and "normal" portions. For now, as you say Tim, I'll just see how well I can stick to ...

(Newb) Guidance on diet methods

Ok, I just deleted a half page story about me and my goals but decided it was a little pointless - I'll just fire some stats and tell you what Ive been doing. 26 - 6'4" 224-228lbs (16 stone / 101.5kgs) - Generally unfit. 6 months in the gym now, M/W/F 3 way split. Good gains in last 3 months - nothi...

I guess my goals, in order, are: Strength Size > Fat loss/vanity > Endurance So initially its about being able to lift more - for my size (6'4") and weight (16 stone / 224lbs) I am quite weak due to being an office worker and hobbies ranging from sitting on my ass to lying on it. I want to get more ...

Variety will confuse me in terms of form, but I guess you mean switch it up monthly not daily? I'd hate to try sort out the form of 25 exercises in the next two weeks. and as for similarities - there are hardly any in the suggestions - starting strength has suggested exercises, you suggest variety, ...
