Re: Starting Light: I just don't get it

Hey Ken, How long were you on vacation?? I just got back after a week and repeated the wave I was on before I left. As far as the 1 rep, you can always use the 1 rep calculator on this site. I can pretty much tell when its time to reset down 10% on my 5/3/1 workouts when I'm only getting a couple re...

Re: Random crap

One of my dogs is getting fat, time to start some evening runs again, get that puppy back in shape. (I too love my dogs)
Vacations at the beach are great, the doms on the workouts when you get back, not so much.

Re: Not training to failure

Some good links there Stu on CNS fatigue. I know from my own personal experience that doing dead lifts near my 1rm max is far more taxing on my body then doing something like standing presses. I think when your nearer your genetic limit that its a lot harder on you physically and mentally then someo...

Re: Not training to failure

What exactly happens when you "fry your cns"? Ive always been curious about this, isn't this really overtraining?

Also wouldn't it lifting to fatigue apply more to lifters lifting near their genetic max and not beginners and intermediates?

Re: Coping missing training

I know what you mean, but sometimes life gets in the way, you just do what you can. I always feel guilty too, but really your not going to suddenly weaker in couple of days. Sometimes I just do the the jack sh*t version when, I don't have time or I'm really tired.

Re: Another music question

You could try this when you read, buy a cd with a recording of rain (or the ocean or some kind of white noise). It will block out the back ground noise, traffic, dogs barking, whatever and you won't even notice it. I live in the middle of nowhere and I rarely here a man made sound, however when I go...

Re: Random crap

I hate when people talk politics at work, they usually have no fricking clue what there talking about, quote what they think say are fact but are in fact pure bs that they bulled from their buttocks . I keep my views to my self as is my right, and I really could care less what they think. I just fin...

Re: Random crap

I'm not a religious man, but my prayers go out to Japan, It's hard to watch pictures of the complete destruction and the tragedy for the people who survived, not to mention the added worry of the nukes going out of control. Saw one report of a dog who wouldn't leave another wounded dog behind, just ...

Doc- Just being cautious and I didn't want to make the work out drudgery and I thought I may have been pushing him too hard, although he liked to keep going up in weight. He is progressing and I made micro weights in 1/2# increments. He is making linear progress, just going slow and letting his body ...

I have my 11 year old son lifting 2 or 3 times a week. He wanted to lift, I didn't and don't force him. I keep the workouts to about 20 minutes and try to make them interesting as to not discourage him. We do box squats, deadlifts, bench press, military press, pull ups and inverted rows. I make sure...

I went into the Navy back in 1981, Now Navy bootcamp is probably different in a lot of ways then the Army, and its probably different now then it was. That said we did have to do a lot of PE. Exercise was used as a punishment and used frequently. Before I went in I ran a lot, got into fairly good sh...

JoeB- I just wanted to comment on your bench press going down, maybe a better way to look at it is your body weight ratio to the weight you lift. I would bet it has increased , just wanted to throw that in and keep up the good work.

Read an article about pull up ladders, just before KPj posted about doing them.

I gave them a shot last night and they are now in my repertoire.

I think I'll also throw them in for hanging leg raises, dips and inverted rows every now and then.

Weight lifting confession-

I wear gloves, my little daughter bought them for me for a birthday present and I feel obligated.

If you mock me for this, I will hit you with my purse.
