Re: How Can I Reach My Goals?

And sorry if I'm being mildly dense here, but would you mind telling me what exactly you would try to change about the routines I listed? You answered it yourself - by doing Starting Strength  You mentioned you wanted to get faster - is there a sport you train for that you were looking for hel...

Re: New at the gym. A few questions.

If i can drill one thing into your head regarding freeweights: picking up the weights, getting into position, getting out of position and putting the weights back on the rack is extremeley important. It may not seem so at first but when you start to build the weight up (and you will) you'll wish you...

Re: New at the gym. A few questions.

The very first thing i noticed is that all of your excercises are based on machines - do you have access to free weights? You will definately want to consider moving from machines to freeweights - you will get a lot of reasons why shortly  - my reason is simply you will get a lot more bang for ...

Re: Some good news!

For some reason reading those comments reminded me of a great thread where Kpj told us about sitting in on weight watchers meetings... I can't understand how utterly aggressive/defensive/opinionated people are about concepts they have skimmed over in the "news"! I remember a lecturer at Uni quoting ...

Have you read the comments?

Man, they're special!

I think the Comments sections below "news" on websites is fast becoming my favorite source of amusement :)

Re: Four Step Rep

I'm at work at the minute but if you search: Bowflex SelectTech 4 Step Rep it will take you there The DVD came with a collection of dumbells that a friend of mine bought - the weights are based on a locking mechanism where you place the bar into the clasp and dial in what weight you want and it conn...

Arthritis

Hey all My father-in-law is riddled with Arthritis and nothing seems to help him with the pain As far as I’m aware he is taking the usual joint care supplements (glucosamine, cod liver oil etc) and is also prescribed steroids which he seems to cycle between oral and injection. Nothing seems to help ...

Re: Deadlift question

Thanks for that guys, that explains it a lot more!

I always tried to add dl's on the same day I did squats - I really struggled to do them after my squats so I simply left them on the back-burner. I'm going to add them into my back day and follow the rep ranges you discuss.

Re: Deadlift question

How many reps/sets would you advise in this ramp? Or is this difficult to call?

I'm sure i've read here that many users keep the reps low... maybe i'm making that up...

Deadlift question

I am a bit confused about suggested rep ranges for deadlifts - I sometimes read totally different outlooks on deadlifts and suppose I'm interested in collecting everyones thoughts on the subject. For someone new to this excercise looking to implement this lift - what rep range would you recommend to...
