Re: 1 set working/workout set

Oh I see. I thought you meant one working set. In theory I suppose I should be able to do one 100%, but I haven't worked up the confidence to try it yet.

Considering your accomplishments I'm going with this definition....

chin-ups as a underhaned grip.

Re: 1 set working/workout set

I do 5-3-1 now, also ramping to 1 top set. Ah-ha! I'd also like to do this. Would you be willing to describe your approach to getting there? Are you just cutting out a set over time. Right now, for my 5/3/1 sets I do what I call 'the full Wendler' -- that is three warm up sets (5x40%RM, 5x/50%RM, 5...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

bam--what do you have against multiple sets? Nothin' really, I do 'em all the time. I remember reading that article awhile back and found it interesting. One issue that nags at me is the notion that repetitive motion may damage the tendons and joints. And it seems logical that weighted repetitive m...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

generally speaking, would you say that smaller muscles groups require less or more volume as opposed to larger muscle groups? or does this depend on a variety of factors as well? I'm just guessing... I'd say that isolations (as opposed to compounds) require lots of volume, and even then you'd have ...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

So if I'm reading you guys right, you object to doing a series of 1+ days. I see your point. I'd like to come up with a workout that would work out though. The second to last paragraph in the article hints that a wave/cycle program (like 5/3/1) might be a candidate for a high intensity low volume ap...

Re: Gym addiction or simply a good stress medicine

heard this relevant podcast the other day... 'Compass Of Pleasure': Why Some Things Feel So Good While most people are able to achieve a certain degree of pleasure with only moderate indulgence, those with blunted dopamine systems are driven to overdo it. Linden explains, "In order to get to that sa...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

This isn't going to work man. I agree with what your saying, but consider that the workout I described is actually a light day (5+), medium day (3+) and heavy day (1+) using only one set with the highest intensity. Maybe a MP/Squat, BP/DL split would be a better approach? BTW -- 1+ is not actually ...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

Ah ha. So uh, did anyone read the article OP posted? Any thoughts on the range one can adjust the components formula Or are we done here? Weight training components (intensity, duration, frequency) are somewhat inversely proportionate to one another (I*D*F). This model suggests if one compone...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

Here's an idea..... Let's say you take the 5/3/1 program and modify it for low volume, high intensity. Something like: Day 1: MP, Squat, BP, DL 1x5+ Day 2: MP, Squat, BP, DL 1x3+ Day 3: MP, Squat, BP, DL 1x1+ Plus a warm up set for each. Rest a day in between workout days and rest 2 day after the cy...

Re: 1 set working/workout set

I looked into that a couple years ago. I really liked the concept of just doing one set -- it sounds so efficient. The conclusion I came to -- as the article says -- is that it's aimed primarily at the very advanced. I think in order to get the intensiity to the appropriate level you'd have to make ...
