Yesterday bench pressed 205lbs 5x5. Not sure what my 1RM would be but more focused on my 5x5 numbers right now. Wish I could say it was my BW also but I weighted in that day at 207lbs. Next attempted is at 210 lbs.

BP problem = math error = BP solution

The other day I went to the gym and was about to BP. I have stalled the previous two times I benched and was thinking about how to handle it if I stalled again. I figured the best way was to deload 10 to 20 %. As I was putting the weights on the bar it struck me that I have been using the wrong weig...

I agree that standards are more for fun but do help you compare your gains to the rest of the world. But, the most important person to compare yourself to is you when you lasted came into the gym. I think a more helpful standard to look at is not so much how much you can lift in a particular exercis...

I have incorporated HIIT into my program as well. When I was training for the USMC Mudrun I would do sprint HIIT 3 times a week on my non lift days. I am now looking at doing 1 to 2 days of sprint HIIT a week. I found that I was able to drop some fat around the middle and really improved my cardio c...

Thanks for all the input! I knew I could count on y'all.

I think incorporating plyometrics would be a idea.

I am looking forward to training with her.

I will update with the program I come up with.

Need advise for weight training swimmers

My oldest daughter is diving into swimming (pun intended). I am no help to her regarding swimming but I thought I could help her out on the conditioning side. I have a good handle on what to do on the cardio / running side but am looking for some input on the weight training side. Can anyone recomme...

It seems that weight lifting and religion have a lot in common. Both are passionate subject and make people uncomfortable to talk about. The last couple of years I have been really focusing on compound lifts and on form. "I have seen the Light!" lol and I guess I just want to preach the good word, l...

Well I made it back in the gym and squatted for the first time. I did 2x5 BW only 2x5 BB only and 1x5 95 lbs. I kept my head and chest up and tightened my core. Felt great and had no pain. Two day later I squatted again 3x5 BB and 2x5 95 lbs and again no pain. Seemed to be able to get deeper in my s...

You can do sprint work either based on a set distance or time. I have been using time recently by using the interval function on my watch. I will sprint for 20 seconds and jog for 60 seconds then repeat 8 times. May not sound like much but if you do push it hard for those 20 seconds it will kick you...

@ Doc: I should have clarified as to what I meant by "light weight". I am planning on doing body weight squats only and working on my form. If I feel any "tweaking" of the back I will of course stop. If it feels great then may consider doing a set with the barbell so I can work on barbell position. ...

Squat and lower back pain

Have been experiencing lower back pain (tweaked) during and after my squat sets. I am able to do the rest of my workout but I feel like I am walking around like some 80 year old with a bad back. This has happen the last couple times. Some background: I have never really squatted much in the past and...
