Re: Dealing with discouraging factors

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I've decided to take this week off, and do some weight resets and resume on Tuesday next week with 3 days/week instead of four. I actually feel better already. I've also got a bit of deep philosophy here. When I started out, using light weights and adding each ses...

Re: What makes a set of planks

You can use plates without a partner. The plates with a openings for grip are easier. Lean the plate against your side as you lay down prone. Reach behind with the opposite arm, grab the plate and pull in on top of your lower back. When you're done, just roll it off. Could one put sand bags on one'...

Re: What makes a set of planks

All three replies here have useful information, so rather than quote and reply to each I'll just say "thanks" for the details and I'll read through this stuff and decide what to go with.

Re: Feeling Burn After a Set???

Lactic acid comes from doing large numbers of reps. 5 reps won't do it. It must be something else. I expect you over-stressed a muscle and it's inflamed. Of course it depends on how long the reps last. I can get a burn from doing singles of TGUs but a rep can last a long time. Typically you need to...

Re:

thanks again! That getting rid of all junk is the stickler. I'm trying to not "deny" but replace. It works to some degree but still have sweet tooth that and apple+peanut butter isn't always taking care of. mmm pancakes! :red: For what it's worth, I've always had a sweet tooth and still do. And no,...

Dealing with discouraging factors

I've got a handful of discouraging factors I'm trying to work through, with the aim of altering my program. A couple of them are easy. I've plateaued on bench, but I know what to do, which is change something. That's not a big deal, but it happened along with two other issues. But I'm also experienc...

Feeling Burn After a Set???

Something new happened to me yesterday. The exercise was press. I'm doing 5x5, with a 5# step between sets. I started only recently so I've been adding 5# per session, with 2 sessions per week, for 10# per week. So what happened was I got a mild burn *after* completing set 4, added 5# for the last s...

What makes a set of planks

I cannot work out exactly what makes a set of planks, how many to do, with what intensity, how to increase intensity, etc. I started trying unweighted, to see how long I could hold. This came out to 60 sec for first rep, and 45 secs for each rep thereafter, repeated up to 7 "reps". However, with a 4...

Well I'm no draftsman, but here's my best attempt at a diagram. Photos to follow next week.

Re: Is this Genius or Idiotic?

I want to see pictures of the $50 materials cage. Oscar and Jungledoc, I'll be very happy to post pictures, if you can give me a week. Reason is, my bar is a 5' 200# capacity Walmart item. I'm happy to say I've outgrown it, and am ordering a 7' today, but for yesterday I temporarily fixed the width...

Re: Is this Genius or Idiotic?

Well it turns out this is not a good idea - but not for any reason I thought of. It actually seems to reduce what you can squat. Today I built myself a proper squat cage and did squats the regular way, plates on the bar instead of hanging from the bar -- and the big surprise was I could squat consid...

Re: Stiff Neck?

Status update: 1) Stopped my reflexive glance downward 2) holding bar lower on back, with narrower grip 3) Started doing shoulder dislocations The general stiff neck is really dropping off. What I noticed most was that shoulder dislocations give immediate relief, though it was not recommended to me ...

Do you continue compounds while correcting Asymmetry?

Once I have worked out that I have asymmetries in quads, glutes, and hams, and have worked out which exercises to do, should I continue with squats while trying to correct it? The reason I ask is that they say these asymmetries can lead to injuries, but I do not know if this is some acute danger, as...

Re: Rest Days

I'm a beginner myself, but having been at it for 7 months, this is what people told me, and I found it to be true. As a complete beginner, in weeks 1-8 (appx) I was simply not strong enough to lift enough weights to wear myself out. I was doing split A/B full body 6 days/week, for 3 full body workou...

Leg Asymmetry, imbalances, injuries, corrections

I've read some comments in various threads lately about muscle imbalances and injuries. When I was doing Bulgarians I had a serious disadvantage on my right side. So I decided to do some isolations and try to work out what was going on. Upper body - no differences or inconclusive. Lower body - big d...
