Re: Questions about push/pull balancing

oh yeah I forgot your training had an Olympic focus. Well the point still remains, doing more pulling than pushing will keep your shoulders happy as a clam. It's not just about what you do in the gym, modern day posture of sitting hunched over a computer (like you're doing right now reading this) g...

I think it's just a question on how long you want the lever to be. When it gets heavy, high placement can be uncomfortable though (and scarier!).

Re: Questions about push/pull balancing

I might be talking out of my a$$ here but I don't think that people need to obsessively "balance" push-pull or if they indeed can really do it. That being said, we need to prevent the hip from being tilted to one "side" (posterior or anterior) and make the scapulae in the correct position. For both,...

Re: Where you been, where you are, where you going, ....

I remember when… snatching 40kg was a scary task because I was new and lifted in a commercial gym. I was excited when… I could snatch my own bodyweight (70kg). One day soon, I’ll snatch 100kg. I can’t wait for the day I snatch 120kg. Is it asking too much to… snatch twice my bodyweight?

Re: Does "Hard Gainer" mean anything outside of Bodybuilding

Relatively lean. When I was younger I couldn't find fat on myself, now I have a small amount but you couldn't tell when I have a shirt on. I've just never been able to build muscle in any amount. Any time I've tried to bulk, it goes on as fat. Still, a BMI of 25 so it's not all skin and bones. Actu...

Re: Looking for lower back advice

You've been already doing glute ham raise but perhaps you can also try weighted hyperextension.

Re: High Pulls

High Pulls are very fun, you can use a good bit of weight on them. But don't do them the day before or after deadlifts/squats. Your lower back needs rest. I'd always thought that high pulls were from the hang. Does it come from your personal experience? From my experience, it's okay to pull and squ...

Re: High Pulls

You'll not get hurt.... but your traps will be sore. I think pulls is one of the best traps builder. For starters, about 30-40% of your deadlift is a good weight in to pick when using snatch grip in my opinion. For clean grip, you can use 40-50%. This might not apply to elite lifters who already hav...

Sat: Press 1, Chins 3 Sun: Dead 3, Row 2 Tue: Bench 1, Press 2 Thu: Squat 1, Row 3 Sat: Press 3, Bench 2, Chins 1 (the only day you do 3 lifts) Sun: Dead 1, Squat 2 Tue: Bench 3, chins 2 Thu: Squat 3, Row 1 I think this is a reasonable program. Of course you can consider row and chin (and maybe pre...

Re: A simple thought on Intermediate Programs

There are too many complications at the intermediate level. You're past the easy "squat every day and alternate bench/row and dead/press" but not yet to the once-major-lift-per-day of advanced. It gets messy. It can be done, but you don't end up with something with the elegant appeal of Stronglifts...

Re: What is this kind of squat called?

I've done that lift with logs before. Not 425#, but it's a lot of fun anyway. Stu, I can imagine whom this lift got its inspiration from, i.e. lumberjacks. Stu not withsanding because he's a antirotation core animal, for me, I'd look like Quasi Modo after a few sets of those. Young man like ...

Re: What is this kind of squat called?

C'mon... you sound almost as bad as those who say that squatting is bad for your knees.

It's core+squatting combined into one! So it must be better than squatting alone.

Re: What is this kind of squat called?

Thanks, doc, but robert got it right!

Actually I've been wanting to do it for some time, but there were always other people in the gym so I kind of hesitated :red:

BTW I want to make a program where you only need to have a barbell, just for the fun of it.
