Re: Deadlift form check.

That was a good lift. Any criticism is just nit picking, really, but i'll give it a shot. I would just mention the neck. I don't think this is preference, btw. I think it's a flaw, that's my opinion anyway. Some lifters definitely prefer to lift with the head up/back because they feel it helps them ...

Re: Whining About Front Squat

Front squat love bites ! Make sure you have the bar on the right place. It should be touching your throat! Since you will NEVER fall back, this contact with the neck becomes comforting. A quick test is to go "no hands" - when you un rack, straight your arms out. If the bar stays put, it's in the rig...

Re: Assistance for bottom of bench

Definitely training with a pause. Humbles you at first but it makes you really explosive. I'm a big fan of speed work, too. I always pause the first then almost drop and catch the rest, normally I do 6-10 sets of 2 -3 reps. If you're collapsing, this may very well be the reason in itself, though. Tr...

Re: My Random Personal Training Thoughts

I've been thinking about this thread. I've avoided it for a while, because it just reminded me of how many set backs i've had, and how many more obstacles i've came across that I never predicted. So, here I am, 2 years after starting it, and i have progress. I'm now part time in my full time job. Wh...

Re: Random crap

What an experience I just had. Over in Belfast for the 4-nations powerlifting championships. This is a team event between Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland. There's equipped and unequipped lifting. 6 in each, 3 men, 3 women. So, 12 in total for each team. My former client and current traini...

Re: Random crap

I'm getting really tired of the d-bags at my gym constantly dropping dumbbells. Many of the dumbbells are bent or loose, and it's unlikely they're going to be replaced any time soon. Last week, the same "type" dropped their DB's after some incline DB press. Their bench was about 3-4 metres from my ...

Re: Random crap

I got an invite to 2 powerlifting competitions. One is a scottish championship which is invitation only to ensure a high standard. Another is a British championship that you also need a qualifying total for. Granted, I can't attend either of them but i'm really pleased I got the invites. Wasn't expe...

Re: Random crap

So.. As the whole personal training thing finally may be coming to fruition in the next few months, I have started to really think and plan for the next steps i'll take. One of these steps which has been at the back of my mind for a couple of years is a website. Since it's a bit premature just now t...

Re: A Simple 5/3/1 program

I've actually used a similar template when life got really crazy. Sometimes I would only have 20-30mins to train, so I went back on 5-3-1 because that means if all you get done is the main lift, then 10-20 mins (including warm up) will keep you on track at the very least. For assistance I used 2 exe...

Re: First PL Competition Write UP

Second competition done. Putting the write up in her. Videos are all over the place so it could take a couple of weeks to get them organised. Weighed in lighter than last time - 78KG (79KG at last meet) - oh, and despite being lighter, the singlet was tighter.... Got a 530KG Total - 30KG more than l...

Re: Sympathy Recomp 2013

Why don't you try the "Get Shredded Diet" by John Berardi? There's a T-Nation article about it that lays it out pretty clearly. It's basically something like: Calories = Bodyweight (lbs) x 10 which for you would be about 1750. You are allowed 10% + or - Protein = 30% of your calories Fats = 60% of ...

Re: Random crap

haha, just seen that. I do train biceps. In the last 10 weeks, i've had one bicep curl variation per week. 3 x 10 of reverse curls (these seem to really help sore elbows, btw - I forgot about them until recently). The 10 weeks before that is was normal EZ bar curls, 3 x 10. I actually have full inte...

Re: questioning safe technique

I actually don't know how anyone could watch a Glassman video or interview or read one of his articles, and Castro, too. Especially Castro, and still take it seriously. I think the way "HQ" conduct themselves is a joke. Look at all the "guru's" they have hired and fired, and normally when said guru ...
