Re: Gym Wish List...

I think gymnastics rings (or blast straps, or suspension trainers) are pretty cool. Nice for inverted rows, among other things. You could probably get a decent pair on the cheap if you shopped around a bit online. Don't pay more than 50 bucks, and even that's if you want a pretty nice pair. You coul...

Re: fitting 4 day split into 3 days

For what a skinny, inexperienced guy's input is worth, i've been doing an upper/lower split and i find inverted rows provide enough stimulation to the lower back for active recovery but not enough to fatigue it. Just a possible option for someone looking to give their back a break... so to speak.

Re: Upper trap dominance (yet another shoulder thread)

Just a quick bump to say i did my DB overhead presses today and it felt great. I still need to work on keeping my abs and glutes tight to prevent excessive hyper-extension but my shoulder didn't give me any trouble at all. I'm getting better at the wall slides, and i took your advice and started doi...

Re: Soft Tissue Work on Hard to Reach Places

Well i don't know how it works but i'm not half as sore the next day if i roll my legs and hips real good after a run! There's your research.

Re: Soft Tissue Work on Hard to Reach Places

So does a lacrosse ball really work a lot better than a tennis ball? I can see how it might... Maybe i should get one -- what do they cost, about two bucks apiece?

Oh and Ken, the look on your face when you roll your IT Band is priceless.

Re: Is improving your appearance your main goal?

KenDowns pretty much took the words right out of my, uh, fingers (I even have mild PE too!). I don't do much bodybuilder-type isolation stuff, and i work out for what may broadly be termed recreational and functional reasons. However, a little more positive attention from members of the gender or ge...

Re: Foundations of Shoulder Health

Are you doing some kind of chest stretching? If you suspect an issue with the subscap then you might try specifically targeting it. Here's one http://www.exrx.net/Stretches/Subscapul ... stick.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: body weight training at home

I agree with Stuward's entire post.

Especially the part where he agrees with me.

Seriously though, ring rows and facepulls are ace.

Re: body weight training at home

For inverted rows, you could get some gymnastic rings and hang them from a pull-up bar (or a tree, or anything). If money's too tight for that, you could drape a towel around something (pull-up bar or anything sturdy) and hold onto that when you row. Another option would be to do tuck lever pull-ups...

Re: Upper trap dominance (yet another shoulder thread)

robertscott, pretty much everything you said was right on the nose, so i'm only going to quote the parts i would like you to elucidate further, if you don't mind. Also, look up an exercise known as prone scap raises, and a mobility drill called YTWLIs. Both of these should be mainstays in your progr...

Upper trap dominance (yet another shoulder thread)

So i've been doing my shoulder pre-hab exercises for a few months now, and am improving, but something i still struggle with is preventing the upper traps from taking over, particularly during facepulls and scap push-ups, and I'm not really sure how i can inhibit them. I've tried this stretch http:/...

Re: Foundations of Shoulder Health

With respect to determining which exercises provoke or ameliorate soreness: if you really want to find out, you could always do a process of elimination. You can either start by doing just one exercise then adding one more each time until you find one that gives you trouble, or you can just keep tra...
