The previous PR was 145kg from december, but now I've gotten the squat so much lower that it doesn't matter. Now I get to parallel, even a bit under.

Re: Personal Best Log

I won personal trainer of the year in my entire organization (15 gyms 1400 staff). (As a caveat, this is based on roughly 65% sales 35% client retention) I got an iPad! In my short speech I quoted Will Smith re: work ethic, and talked about how a good service sells itself. I'm hoping to springboard ...

Re: Need some advice on my routine

This is what I got from the W4SB website that was suggested. I've been a trainer for 3 years, and the most important thing I've learned is that I haven't learned nearly enough to reinvent the wheel. Programs like W4SB, strong lifts, 531, (et cetera) were developed by guys who were eating iron for b...

Re: Need some advice on my routine

Given the diverse range of aptitudes here, I think most of us could find a dozen flaws with just about any program somebody posts. I think it would benefit everybody if instead of diving into a critique we encouraged newbies to post actual specific goals so we could build up a program around somethi...

hey now, the smith machine is a great place to do inverted bodyweight rows, boxing duck unders, and parkour underbars :p

(I think we all need an emoticon on the left here that stands for "what jungledoc said," it'd save us a lot of typing!)

Re: Pull-up Challenge, 2012

This time two years ago, I did 10X10 pull ups with a 5lb plate tucked into my trousers. This year, I'm happy I was able to do 5X5 without being crippled the next day. Stupid injuries :angryfire:

Re: Smart Fitness University

The video is mentioned somewhere on this forum within the last year. Youtube is now blocked on our little network (a sort of tin network, if you know what I mean), so I can't look it up there. My name on Youtube is "Andyboy Bennett". I think. Or maybe "Andy Boy Bennett". It seems to be the right vi...

Re: Foundations of Shoulder Health

Have you tried giving Cressey's Neanderthal No More program a whirl? It's really about high volume pulling and mobilizing/stabilizing the scapula to promote healthy shoulder function.

Re: Soft Tissue Work on Hard to Reach Places

Where's the research on what this exactly does? Great (and important!) question. While there's not a whole lot specifically on self-release techniques, there are some small studies and case reports on release techniques like ART and myofascial release for helping with pain management and return to ...

Re: "The Year in Strength Science 2011" from SS

Great read. The bit about the FMS was fantastic, and I think it illuminates some of the serious issues with with is taken as exercise "fact" versus what is actually supported. A perfect example is the prevailing belief that yoga helps improve range of motion, but if you look at the (very) few studie...
