Re: JasonJones - Let's Have It

I assume you're singling me out because of some past issues involving trolling of some sort on ExRx. I admit that I'm new here and if I'm stepping on any toes, or if there's been some controversies or conflicts in the past that I'm unaware of, I'd like to apologize for bringing them back to the fore...

Re: Why don't you compete?

I've competed, and it's a lot of fun. I even set a nation squat record (since defeated). I could probably still podium for squat, although I'll never be able to hit a competitive total, and it was a heck of an experience.

Very worthwhile.

I can't bench, and I've coached two female powerlifting athletes to national record benches.

Re: Back Pain From Planks

How's your external/internal rotation range of motion at the hip? That could be a huge contributor if your hip flexors are hypertonic, which it sounds like they are.

Re: Tough Mudder in October: Need a training Plan

I did the Warrior Dash last year, and I trained for the obstacles, not the run. Talk about a mistake. I did the entire thing with an HD Hero strapped to my chest, which means I was able to go over my performance afterwards and see where I was weak. The WD was a much shorter course (only 5k) with abo...

Re: Body building upper back

Lot of Roberts in this thread! Count me in: my middle name is Robert. Robfest? On topic: I have to second the motion re: snatch grip deadlift for the upper back. I'm not known for my size — what with training for parkour and all — but I get more compliments on my upper back than anything else. Notwi...

I'm about to embark on this myself. I'll take some before/after/progress photos along the way for your judging pleasure.

Re: Why you hatin on the Upright Row?

Discussing Cressey, one of his mantras is "there are not contraindicated exercises, only contraindicated people." He goes into detail in one of his shoulder saver articles about the potential anatomical differences present in different shoulders, and how they would affect one's ability to do certain...

Re: Training Fasted

I've been training fasted with the leangains 16/8 much like Nevage for the past year now. I find that hunger pangs can at times make the idea of training seem more daunting, but once I actually start training I'm able to kick it into gear quite normally. It's had an effect on my ability to make gain...

Re: Foundations of Shoulder Health

Don't forget that it's very difficult to 'jerk' a pressing movement like a bench or a squat and very easy to do so with a pulling movement. One can cheat the range of motion on almost any upper or mid back exercise by adding in unnecessary movements through the erectors or legs (and simultaneously f...
