Re: teaching girlfriend to squat

I'm not a huge fan of wall squats personally, I find a lot of people will internally rotate their knees to avoid hitting the wall, defeating the purpose of learning a proper movement pattern, but your mileage may vary. That said, my process generally goes exactly like what you've described afterward...

Re: Herniated Disc (Cervical Spine)

I deal with a lot of injured people -as a trainer- but, I never touch the neck, always refer out, even if it's a pain free dysfunction. I agree with KPj 100%. Any trainer who is willing to tackle this kind of injury without the support of a medical practitioner is going way outside the scope of the...

I would be very, very interested in hearing your thoughts on this, as well as what you did to improve your condition.

Re: Bill DeSimone talks pull ups and shoulders

I'll have to bow to your superior knowledge of DeSimone's work, KPj. As it stands his YouTube channel has 3 videos, and the video on congruent exercise contains primarily compound movements. I've read some of his interviews and they were markedly different from his behavior here, e.g. But other guys...

Re: Bill DeSimone talks pull ups and shoulders

I was treated with as much — if not more — distain by Bill as anyone in that squat thread, and I completely agree that the guy is either unwilling or unable to have a meaningful discussion. However, irrespective of my personal and professional disagreements with the man, a good 40% of my clientele a...

But if you were inside the box, it would be impossible to determine if you were alive or dead.

Bill DeSimone talks pull ups and shoulders

I thought Bill DeSimone illustrated impingement syndrome very well in this particular video. Looks like he's got a new (?) youtube channel.

Re: learning Spanish and starting a new life in Spain

My better half didn't immigrate to Canada until she was six, and when she did she took French immersion, so she's spoken at one time or another five different languages. She says it's really hard to maintain even one other fluency if you're not immersed in it often enough, even if it is your mother ...

Re: different types of deadlifts

It's generally accepted that the choice between sumo and conventional is determined by arm length to torso length or lower back issues. The longer your arms, the more mechanical advantage you have in a conventional stance. Caveat: more strength records are set with conventional stance than sumo. Whe...

Why are you working out? It's hard to train if you're not training for something.

Ever have issues with your enormous testicles scraping the floor when squatting? Use Balls Talls, the new way to wear garments "under" your garments. Not only do these essential "underneath pants" pack your babymakers tight against your thighs, but they come in both "brief" lengths and lengths akin ...

Re: broken collar bone (clavicle) rehab/ prevention

There's not a lot you could do to protect against this type of injury. Collar bones break in the same location in 85% of cases; it's just not capable of absorbing that much impact. As per Wolff's Law, loading a bone increases it's resistance to load, but I doubt very much you'd be able to build an i...

Re: Starting Strength/StrongLifts rip-off

As far as earning the bench--I'm trying :) Really putting a lot of effort. But I can't say that being completely uncomfortable before unracking is my goal. Planting the feet so far back that only toes make contact with the rubber almost made my hamstring cramp. Having the knee at 90 degrees, howeve...
