Re: High Intensity Interval Training

You asked: "So I can do this with any exercise? For instance Deadlift for 30 seconds, rest 30 seconds and repeat the cycle for 20 minutes?" A lot of people are doing HIIT workouts using light weight-higher rep exercises e.g. push ups, burbees, lunge+shoulder press with light dumbells etc. This "work...

Re: Is improving your appearance your main goal?

My answer is a qualified, "yes, in part." It's qualified in the sense that I have defined "appearance" in my world to equate with the appearance created by health and fitness, which means that harming the body for the sake of appearance is out. For example, drugs, diuretics, dieting, force feeding, ...

Re: my current routine for bulk

Direct arm work is just for fun ? So if someone purchases some free weights and does curls their biceps won't get bigger after 1 or 2 months? Don't you think it's fun? Ok, my attempt at humor and grabbing attention--probably not funny to everybody. My point: The biceps is about the size of a potato...

Re: Back Pain From Planks

Hey, I wanted to report some good news. I experimented with the McGill curl up some more this morning and found that it is a challenging exercise that I will use. My first experience with it was that it was too easy. I simply wasn't coming up far enough. The range of motion is small, but I was just ...

Re: my current routine for bulk

I'd probably reduce the volume. I think that's a lot of volume for chest especially. I'd pick two exercises. e.g. BP and Incline BP. I think the BB row and DB are reduntant. I'd pick one--I prefer DB for lower back safety, especially if you're doing other exercises that hit lower back, such as squat...

Re: Back Pain From Planks

Lastly - do the planks hurt instantly or only after a certain amount of time? KPj[/quote] Thanks to everyone for your comments. The planks do not hurt at all when I perform them. The stiffness in the lower back and sciatica follow it in the evening (I train in the early morning -- 6ish) and the foll...

Re: Back Pain From Planks

The woman in the gym may want to check that. In your case it's likely something else. Have you tried ab rollouts? I can think of lots of exercises that will work but it's hard to know what would affect your back or not. You could try make the curl up harder by holding a dumbbell or a cable. That's ...

Re: Back Pain From Planks

I strongly contract the glutes. I definitely feel it in my entire abdominal region. I maintain a straight body with no sagging (hyperextension) or flexion.

Back Pain From Planks

First, great website. I've been visiting it for years. About me, I'm an advanced lifter with about 25 years experience. I, unfortunately also have a history of back problems. I severely injured my back in '04. Before that I had off and on back pain and problems. I struggled with major sciatica for a...
