The Whiskey Thread

I will start this off by saying I am an absolute newb when it comes to whiskey. I'm 40 freaking years old and have rarely touched hard alcohol. I am no prude, though. I've drank enough beer to fill up half of the Gulf of Mexico. Beer, for some sad reason, has just simply stopped tasting good for me...

Personal Best Log

On Wednesday I squatted 322x10 ATG. New PR. Thought I was going to die. Today I'm going to hit 380 for three. Thursday I pressed 155 for three. This was my previous tested 1RM. Did it with a shoulder injury. On Saturday I pulled 370 for a triple. New PR. Deadlift is my most finicky lift. This coming...

learning Spanish and starting a new life in Spain

Sorry to bump this again. But my girlfriend is spanish so if you have any questions about the area around Barcelona or Spain in general, ask away Mom was born and raised in Madrid. I have family all over the country. The only suggestions I will make: learn as much of the language as you can and stu...

Re: 5/3/1 Question

Wow guys, thanks for all the feedback. I hit 10 reps on my 3+ for squats yesterday, too. I'm coming off several months of 3x5s and I have been finding that when it comes down to the + sets I have a lot more juice in the tank. It could also be mental - knowing I only have to crank out at one "hard" s...

5/3/1 Question

or you might be novice enough to be doing a more aggressive schedule... I could probably milk more gains out of a TM set up - by eating with wild abandon. I got to a point where I felt like I needed to get some conditioning in and had stopped gaining useful weight. Everything but my squat had stall...

Motivation - rejuvenating spark

I'll update my journal momentarily for the record. :D Today, I did the deadlift 5/3/1 and 5x10 @ 50% - and that was enough for the first run at it. I figured the 5 sets of 10 would wind me; however, what it did was work the hell out of my forearms, and I liked it. I know doing this part of the rout...

5/3/1 Question

Hi guys and gals, Questions on 5/3/1 BBB. I am on my first real cycle of 5/3/1, on the 3+ week. Now, I never tried for an actual 1RM when I first generated my numbers, I only calculated my expected 1RM based on my previous 5RM. Yesterday was Bench day, I I hit 10 reps on my 3+ set at what was suppos...

Re: How's your warm-up?

I still squat every workout, so warmup is as follows, with only enough rest between warmup sets to change plates. Squats 45 x 3x5 85 x 5 135 x 5 175 x 3 225 x 3 265 x 2 315 x 1 Take a 2 minute break, then into my worksets of 3x5. This tends to keep my warm throughout my workout. The only other lift-...

Re: Quality Barbell

I have the B&R bar, and I use it in an attached garage. It is definitely getting a nice patina on it - I want to say I got it about 3 years ago but I can't recall for sure. I would not call it rusty. Knurl is fantastic and diameter is very comfortable. I use it for standard "movement" style lifts an...

Re: sympathy recomp anyone?

I'd like to join in on the sympathy recomp efforts. For the next year I will be attempting to lean out by eating whatever strikes my fancy. I am hoping my weight will stay stable (224). The plan is to add volume to my workouts, add strongman style training as conditioning on my lower body days via k...

Re: different types of deadlifts

What are your guys' thoughts on "frog stance" style deadlift, ala George Hechter? I've found over the last couple months that I have a really, really hard time setting my back in a strict conventional stance, and that only by tweaking out my foot angles and keeping my heels in close was I able to ri...

Re: Motivation - rejuvenating spark

Don't know if this is okay, hopefully if not a mod will realize I'm just trying to be helpful and not spam... but there's a website called "Fitocracy" - google it, I won't link to it here - but it is kind of a fun spin on exercise, you level up and stuff as you achieve lifting goals (or any other ex...

Feedback Requested - Help with goals

Re: Feedback Requested - Help with goals

Just wanted to give an update to this. Weighed in today at 224lbs, I am now taking creatine and getting a regular 9 hours of sleep. MY last workout was: Squat ATG 315x3x5 beltless vs 315 w/ belt and poor form before Bench 190x3x5 vs 165 before Deadlift 325x3x5 (still working on this guy, this partic...

Re: Feedback Requested - Help with goals

I started sneaking in a 2nd breakfast of 1 cup full fat cottage cheese and a mid afternoon snack of 1 cup full fat greek yogurt. Skim milk and whey Pre and post workout. Energy is much better and I am killing my workouts. I'll stick with this for a while and see where it gets me. Thanks to everyone ...
