Re: Help me substitute an exercise in my program

I would love to do Hammer Strength Rows and already found a decent machine to buy. For now, per Robert's suggestion, I would rather save the money and take advantage of my rather heavy DBs. For anyone interested, this article puts DB rows on a pedestal as compound lift royalty! (link credit: Robert)...

Re: Help me substitute an exercise in my program

Stuward, for a long time now I've had an issue doing chins with a pronated or supinated grip. Will a neutral grip work just as well? I have a feeling I won't be able to complete enough decent reps. Matt, bar makes contact sort of in between (below the chest). Slightly wider than should-width grip. R...

Help me substitute an exercise in my program

First of all, hi all! It's been a long time! Grad school, licensing, and work caught up with me. Haven't stopped lifting though. Quickly about my program. M/W/F following an ABA BAB rotation. A: 5x5 squat 4x6 bench 4x6 barbell row superset: lateral raise+hanging leg raise, weighted dip+curl B: 5x5 d...

Re: Quality Barbell

It seriously costs [1 million dollars] for a bar? dude, google "Eleiko" A few trainers in my local gym said that the affordable ones came bent from the factory or became bent after dropping on safeties with very moderate weight. Poliquin actually has a promo video on youtube saying that the bars ar...

Re: Quality Barbell

It seriously costs [1 million dollars] for a bar? It's possible to buy a used one from Craiglist, but you gotta get lucky. I sold my generic barbell for $100 after 4 years of use. From what I saw, any barbell that is 28-29mm and is made of half-decent steel will be over $250. Maybe I did not do eno...

Re: Quality Barbell

Thank you for all the replies! I decided to shell out the $$$. Ever since main lifts replaced nearly everything I do with weights, I have sold the powertec half-rack with lat tower and was about to buy the Westside cage (really liked the idea of such close safety spacing to save both the ribs and th...

Quality Barbell

Is it worth the $$$? Here's the basic info I dug up so far: - Bend is good for olympic lifts, bad for bench/squat/deadlift/OHP - Oly vs PL: knurl is understated vs "cheese grater" respectively (oly knurl marks are farther apart too) - Center knurl MIA on Oly bars which is bad for low back squats-- i...

Re: Poliquin's Top 10 Carb Intake Rules

Personally I favor whey protein (fast protein) before the workout, so I get the most out of it before and during my session Dub, Is this necessary or just a habit? On few occasions, I heard that carbs are the focus before a workout and any protein is fine (chicken etc). Stu, I've switched from skim...

Re: Starting Strength/StrongLifts rip-off

Anyone can weigh in on my hamstrings question? It seems the only work they get is as stabilizers on Day A (squat day).

Re: Starting Strength/StrongLifts rip-off

the little increment thing sounds very good. why does it take so long, too long rests? so you are training 3 times a week? For the first exercise on each day (squat and deadlift respectively), I like to have 3 warmup sets. The following two main lifts get 2 warmup sets each. Bear in mind that I am ...

I must second that! Switching to basic barbell training has been great. Also, the countless nutrition advice are very much appreciated.

Thanks all

Re: Starting Strength/StrongLifts rip-off

- why do you consider it the best? more fun or way better results than before? - did you try to not make the supersets at the end and the training was not enough for core and delt? A few reasons why I really like it: It's focused. 3 main lifts per day (plus 2 accessory lifts for dessert). It's comp...

Re: Starting Strength/StrongLifts rip-off

This routine is hands down the best thing that I've experienced in my gym career! 5x5 across A: Squat, Bench, BB Row B: Deadlift, Press, Chin ***At the end of each session I do a 3x12 delt+core superset. Question: Are the hamstrings getting neglected? I have been experiencing soreness everywhere but...

Re: Starting Strength/StrongLifts rip-off

Bang these with 3x10/5x10 or any other set/rep scheme you want but weak points should be hit hard with reps. Thanks for these, kibe! You mentioned having the same problem--have you worked it out? I've already done all the necessary pull earn fitter. Why should I be willing to do it again? At first,...

Yeah, that's the one. Virtually no give.

I've had 3-4 barefoot workouts already and absolutely love it. Especially the deadlift!
