Re: Upper body only split routine, pull/push?

Twice, as shown, Tuesday + Friday or some similar arrangement. I agree the push/pull is an odd split. The shoulder gets hit both times and could become a limiting factor. Moreover, the implementation will be for hypertrophy with higher rep ranges and overall volume. Since I'm just about 50, recover...

Re: Upper body only split routine, pull/push?

Well... you could think about a "torso/extremities"-split (without legs so chest/back and shoulders/arms)... but I don`t like that very much compared to a push/pull-split...

How often do you want to train per week?

Abs could be done a little bit every training day.

Re: Can I train lower body without raising my squat/dl numbe

I will take a wild guess after reading your post... ... the most important thing seems to me: What does a "bad spine history" mean exactly? Normally I would stress the importance to train your body, to strengthen it, so you are able do what is needed. Obviously this has to be done in a safe manner. ...

Re: The Dreaded Deadlift Question

Should it be done on leg or back day? I've read both points of view extensively and it seems the majority opinion is that deadlift should be done on back day. I for the most part I do them on leg day but when I deadlift they are substituted for squats. I'm ok with trying them on back day so I can d...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Overall it looks fine but I would suggest the following... On one hand you reduce assistance to 4x10, on the other hand you are doing more excercises and not only light prehab stuff like Face Pulls or Band Pull-aparts. You don`t have to do everything at the same time with 5/3/1. You can make small c...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Improving 3 out of 4 is good, as Wendler repeatedly wrote in the past. Unless you are really beginning weight training, it is normal that lifts improve in waves. I had times where two lifts improved and the other two wouldn`t move at all. "Suddenly" these lifts jumped and the others stagnated. Often...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Wendler also states nowadays that one should be able to do 5 strong reps (with good barspeed) in 5/3/1-week. I would recommend a lower TM, either a new calculation (taking 85% instead of 90%) or going back 3 cycles and go from there. When I trained with 5/3/1 and was in your situation, unless I had ...

Re: Pull Up Training

The best advice I have for pull-ups is just to do them randomly throughout the day and not particularly to failure except maybe once a week. When I had to pull apart my house this is what I would do and my overall pool of strength went through the roof I've seen or heard this suggestion before, and...

Re: Speed deadlifts... when to breathe?

Yes I usually do several 'optional' excerisses --- I'm quite time rich at the moment so I can kill as much time as I like doing excersise which is nice; but I often wonder how some guys manage to recover fast enough to lift 6-8x/week! Well, I think they build up slowly over time and without maxing ...

Re: Speed deadlifts... when to breathe?

Thanks for answering, Mike. Do you do any optional excercises on strength day? (or on the other day?)

Did you think about doing the hypertrophy-template for a few weeks for a change of pace?

Good luck, with your training!

Re: Speed deadlifts... when to breathe?

@ Mike Why do you use "speed-deadlifts" (in this context)? Are you using Bands or Chains for acommodating resistance? Good question... They are recommended by JC in his 'power' version of the linear programme. I like to do cleans so I felt maybe speed deadlifts would help. I don't have any chains/b...

Congratulations to you, Khronos8! Thanks for the writeup. With my diagnose I guess I won`t train heavy anymore, so I could just write down my last "actual maxes"... Squat 1x122,5kg Deadlift 2x132,5kg Sumo-DL 1x140kg Benchpress 2x80kg Press 1x57,5kg @ 80kg bodyweight, 183cm, 44years old... Not much, ...

Re: Basic training for older woman using dumbbells & FID ben

I like the the way the iinstructions are given (that stuward posted). But for someone new to it, there seem to be endless possibilities in them... To make it a bit easier: Think of doing "a squat, a push and a pull" each trainingday (as stuward wrote), to cover all your muscles. A squat (movement) f...
