Full sit-ups are not necessarily an ab exercise. Check out the exercise directory section on this web site. It is excellent for choosing exercises.

Buy a hand blender; they are very good for blending smooth ingredients. They don't work so well with other ingredients such as berries or a banana. If you use whey protein powder, they work well with that. Mix the powder with juice, milk or water. Just remember to clean off the blender after every u...

If you are 29, 5'6" and 118 lbs, your BMI is 19.10, a nice number. Because you are already down to losing the last bit of body fat, it will be more difficult to reach your goal. I don't think your goal should be scale weight, but body fat percentage. Have you had your BF% measured? Unfortunately, we...

I should add that many Crohn's sufferers get to know their limits each day. So, if she stops the exercise on a particular day, she probably knows what she is doing and in reality can't go on. Be prepared for interruptions.

Crohn's disease involves joint pain and fatigue also. Any exercise program must work around those two when they show their ugly heads. Other than that, I would start the client off with a regular beginner program. If the main goal is weight loss, then the same three approaches would work- diet, card...

I like the seated row, but using a straight back to minimize the lower back involvement. Concentrate on squeezing the shoulder blades together; use as light a weight as you need to to form this movement. Another one is to get into the lat pulldown position, with a lighter weight. Rather than pulling...

I am also very inflexible in the upper and lower body areas. I did not stop trying squats! Although I lift very light, using dumbbells rather than a bar, I find that the squats and lunges are increasing my flexibility. If you can't go down all the way, then go down as far as you can; this will incre...

I mix up straight sets and antagonistic sets. That is, I will do straight sets for a workout or two, then in the next couple of workouts- for example, do a chest press set, then a pulldown set, until all the chest and back sets are done. Then on to another pair of exercises. It just adds variety to ...

It depends on your goals. I will sometimes work the serratus anterior in as an extra exercise, to use in a superset or just for variety if I'm doing well that day. Shoulders are my most fragile joint, so I will work in light rotator cuff exercises, mainly for range of motion. It doesn't have to be m...

Whey protein powder can be purchased at Walmart, supplement stores like GNC and some drugstores. I get mine from the local grocery store. Just read the label to make sure it has the right ingredients and little or no sugar. The brand I buy has no fillers. You can get it flavoured, or plain to add yo...

I did a google search on sugar alcohols. Basically, it is not a sugar and not an alcohol, but has properties that resemble both. It does not contain the intoxicating element, and is made from plant sources, or manufactured, depending on the type of sugar alcohol. Here are some of the sites: en.wikip...

The rectus abdominus is one muscle rather than two or three. When you do an ab exercise, you are working the whole muscle. That being said, some exercises work the upper abs more vigorously, and others work the lower abs more. Do a variety of exercises. If you do only one or two, you won’t be workin...

The best time to exercise is when you can and when you feel good. While I was working, I trained in the evening. Sometimes I was tired after a particularly busy day, but I trained anyways. Now that I am retired, I can train at mid-morning. That's when I feel best. There is NO way that I can or will ...

Ensure is mostly used for people who are ill, or who have a condition that prevents them from absorbing nutrients. It is high in fat and low in protein. I personally use Myoplex Lite; it seems to have a good variety of micronutrients and a good balance of macronutrients. Nutrigrain bars are too high...

Here's what I do: I go to the websites of the fast food joints that I know I might frequent, if say on a trip. I then pick out the menu items that I like and write down the nutrition breakdown. That way, I know what I am ordering in advance, and can work it into my total day plan. Check out their we...
