sprinting and jogging?

What if you jogged for about 20-30 mins and then switched over to doing a couple of sprints? Do you think this would be effective or not? I would like to maintain some distance, but at same time also build more leg muscle.

one more thing

one more thing i forgot to mention...sometimes if i just do sprints instead of going long distance, it isn't as bad. For instance, if I go 2 or 3 miles at a moderate pace the pain is worse in the morning. If I just do sprints and walk the rest of the way for about 2 miles it is not as bad. Does this...

just wondering...cause i do legs all on one day and i do squat, straight leg/back deadlift, good morning, step ups and lunges all in one day. Then I also do sprints once a week.
