Re: BD's discussionaire

Right now I just want to put some weight on. After that? I have no clue. I'm not in any competitive sports, and I'm not really into extreme bodybuilding. So hopefully I'll figure something out besides the normal "It's good for you" reason. OK, I've kept my yap shut for a while now. I'm an old timer...

Re: Aesthetic difference between muscle strength and muscle

Your goal of getting ripped is determined primarily by your diet and bodyfat %'s. Heavy weights with lower reps can help, as can higher weights with more moderate weights with a much quicker rest time between sets and exercises, but in the end, it's you bodyfat %.

Re: For those doing 5/3/1 or maybe others similar situation

John, READ the link Doc or someone sent to Wendler's 5-3-1. Yes, 8-10 or a TUL between 45-120 sec with a 75 % 1 RM might be better for hypertrophy, but the 5-3-1 is geared towards using a major function lift, be it push, pull, squat in the 5-3-1, then following it up with auxilliary exercises done i...

Re: Clint's garage gym

Clint, looks like you and I have a very similar setup, except mine is on the back porch. Here's how I handled my DB thing. I had plenty of smaller O fitting plates, so I got a couple of O sized DB handles. Also, back in the day, I kept my eyes open, and found a big 5 Sporting Goods store going out o...

Re: Rest periods for lifts like curls, when strength is goal

I'm with John on this one. If you have gas in the tank after your major lifts, then go ahead and do them. As to the intersetting, or whatever someone called it, I actually read a Coach Poliquin article (and it's in his book the Poliquin Principles) where he uses some form of Barbell curl alternated ...

Re: chest dips form

Yes on the puffed chest, shoulder blades squeezed. Also, when you're doing it, concentrate mentaly on using the chest. Sounds kind of hokey, but for me anyway, it works for transfering the majority of the action on the chest, in both bench and Dips.

Re: chest dips form

Just my .02 here. I do dips pretty regularly, so I know the possible pitfalls about what I'm going to tell you. Form looks pretty good, but you're going pretty shallow, which may be why the chest isn't getting a full impact. You've got to be pretty careful though when trying to add depth. Lower down...

Re: Home made Dip Bars for a squat rack.

Those are some legit ass dip bars. I custom made some dip bars when I lived in florida out of cinderblocks and wooden fence posts. Yours looks a lot more professional did you weld those pieces together? awesome. John, you sound like a cheap skate like me. I put in two 4X4's in the back yard, slight...

Re: Eating more carbs at dinner...

Well, you just got into an older thread. What they were discussing was an article on carb backloading, something being looked at. Basically, your thought's of doing carbs early on, when they're depleted, and limiting them after is pretty much accepted for those following a lowered carb lifestyle.

Re: First accessory to help deadlift?

Well, you said your major deficit is breaking off the floor, so I agree with what I read from Proper Knob's link, being from Thibideau. "Because of my structure, the start of the movement is the most problematic for me, so deadlifts from a deficit (standing on a podium) and snatch-grip deadlifts are...

Re: Healthy breakfast without increasing sugar levels

Yeah, what Stu said. If you must have your whole grains, stay away from the packaged, processed garbage that get's toted as being great. I think maybe grape nuts may be all right. Choose something real and not processed. You will need to cook them up though. Quinoa, kashi (NOT the processed stuff, b...

Welcome Eric. Oscar has a twisted sense of humor, so kind of just disregard it when he seems to get curt with you. For some reason, he does that to most newbies, even though he is one himself. Again, welcome.

Re: Belly Fat Diet

Hmm, good idea. I already do a mix like that, but will add almonds to it. I use mackerel though, it's much cheaper than tuna where I'm at, and as a side note, higher in omega 3's. I mix a mackerel mixture, cottage cheese, chopped brocolli, and when I feel like whole grains, add a quinoa lentil mixtu...
