Re: Full squatting just bad form?

"Yes, it's bad form. When you go that deep you will round your lower back to keep your balance and complete the range of motion. That's bad form and exposes your lumbar spine to enormous pressure and potential injury. Some people bounce at the bottom, which makes it even more dangerous." - Drake Van...

Re: interesting article on steroids and crossfit

"Steve Reeves had a FFMI of 25.7. It's probably more accurate than Sandow's. Layne Norton has an FFMI of 26.8. Some debate whether he is drug free. If you know someone with a higher FFMI than Steve Reeves, then it seems like the burden of proof should be on the person making the claim. It's more bel...

Re: interesting article on steroids and crossfit

In other words, I think a legitimately natural bodybuilder with good genetics could match Bonds' build without PEDs. That doesn't mean they could hit a baseball, much less match Bonds' on-field performance.

Re: interesting article on steroids and crossfit

"Barry Bonds The odds of someone eclipsing Bond's home run record without PEDs is remote. Bonds had good "Baseball" genetics. Power Making a comparison between bonds and a bodybuilder doesn't make any sense. Hitting home runs is all about power. Force = Mass X Acceleration A player like Bonds steppi...

Re: Full squatting just bad form?

Personally, I squat by feel. When my hamstrings touch my calves I stop and reverse directions. Going much deeper causes a prying effect on the knees (for me at least). PS) I also used to have trouble keeping my heels down on squats. However, it hasn't been a problem since I started squatting low-bar.

Re: Full squatting just bad form?

Parallel is the minimum required depth for a squat. Anything above parallel is a partial (half squat, quarter squat, etc.) and shouldn't count as a squat. The term "Full Squat" generally refers to a full range-of-motion squat. That means going all the way down until you're just about sitting on your...

Re: interesting article on steroids and crossfit

I also have to call BS on the FFMI stuff. For example, while Eugene Sandow was an impressive physical specimen, he trained mainly for strength, not hypertrophy. Meanwhile, he made a name for himself at a time when a VERY small percentage of the population was weight training. It's ridiculous to assu...

Re: interesting article on steroids and crossfit

I agree, however there is a strong bias in this article. The authors have spent their careers helping athletes cheat. They want to believe that everyone is doing it and convince others likewise, in order to justify their actions and the actions of their clients. There's also a bit of a sales pitch h...

Re: interesting article on steroids and crossfit

I don't believe that ALL elite athletes are using, but I do think that PED use is a lot more common than most people realize, especially in sports with little or no testing.
