Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Wendler also states nowadays that one should be able to do 5 strong reps (with good barspeed) in 5/3/1-week. I would recommend a lower TM, either a new calculation (taking 85% instead of 90%) or going back 3 cycles and go from there. Lower Training Max Calculation This is an excellent point. With t...

Re: How do I become a personal trainer? I have no idea!

I do agree with you that experience and practices more important than certification, but unfortunately I still need to get one. Certification I wouldn't quite go so far to state that experience and practice trumps a certification. A certification basically states basically have scientific knowledge...

Re: How do I become a personal trainer? I have no idea!

Hey Steward, thank you for the quick reply. I do not think I can take the CSCS because I did not have a degree in health related field. I have been doing research on various certifications and I am getting more confused more research I do haha. If you can shoot your friend Kenny a line, that would ...

Re: How to get proper exercise?

Use BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) Calculator to calculate your resting calories and then go from there. BMR Calculators Who ever came up with BMR Calculations should be horse whipped, then shot. The room for error is enormous! It amount to using a GPS system that determines your global position is som...

Re: Speed deadlifts... when to breathe?

So I have been following Candito Linear programme with speed deadlifts rather than paused deadlifts. I find it virtually impossible to bonk them out as fast as I can and still breathe while I am doing it. So I hold my breath for each set, 6x4, and get dizzy --- which I kind of like but it does feel...

Re: Cardinal Sin

Thanks Mr. Croxdale. I really want to see where this can go. Please note that I'm using primarily Weight plates on the machine and the bands are used as a secondary means of resistance. I'll keep you guys posted as this is something in depth that I'm going to undertake. Thanks again. Accommodating ...

Re: Cardinal Sin

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've posted, but here it goes. I've committed a cardinal sin, but let me explain myself. I now train on a modified Soloflex!! Now before anyone yells out "stone him!" hear me out. The reason why I got a Soloflex is because I wanted something that was spac...

Re: Best substitute for standing OHP (low ceiling)

I would have to also agree. You want the back support when doing seated overhead press. Why? Why would someone need back support? Back Support Back support simply places more work on the muscle involved by taking the stabilizer muscles out of the equation. You are able to "brace yourself" and drive...

Re: Building muscle post-menopause

I've known for some time that Cholesterol can be preventative against infections, and within a wide range, against overall mortality but I wasn't aware of the sarcopenia protection. I wasn't aware of cholesterol effect on sarcopenia, either. I came across it on Ergo-log.com. This is a great site fo...

Re: Building muscle post-menopause

You're right; that was rather sketchy. What I'm looking for is research on or even anecdotal evidence of how exercise and nutrition "rules" might change for post-menopausal women. Since my original post, I've found an interesting paper on the topic which notes the obvious factors (such as lower lev...

Re: Building muscle post-menopause

I'm 59. With a few breaks here and there, I've been active all my life. Although I'm petite (5' tall, 107 lbs., small frame), it's always been fairly easy to get decent muscle definition with strength training, but at this age? Not so much. My brother has the same good genes (and recently competed ...
