Fat loss comes from calories deficit. However, 1 gram glycogen is associated with about 3 grams of water, so glycogen depletion can lead to water loss that comes back quickly when carbs are reintroduced. There's no long term effect.

There is lots of evidence that size can be built with less than maximum weights, even as low as 30% of maximum. It may take longer to get the effect but it's volume that makes the most difference. I'm not a swimmer but it stands to reason that the longer the interval between breaths, the more time can be spent on work, so therefore, higher efficiencies and faster times. If you're not competing, don't worry about it. If you are, talk to your coach.

Try increasing the amount of protein. Not only does that help build muscle but it controls your appetite. Substituting one meal a day with protein shake is an easy way to lose fat.

Starting out is always an issue. You have to phase in your exercise. Try doing light, short, full body workouts every day for about 2 weeks, gradually increasing the intensity and duration. I made my own micro weights with chain from the hardware store. For dumbbells, magnets are popular. (brand name Platemates) You can use anything as long as you know what it weighs.
