Peter, I tried to leave a comment on your blog but I couldn't log in and lost my post.

You talked about a liver health post on T-Nation.

The article didn't go into the "why" of the recommendations. It didn't mention the harmful effect that fructose and alcohol have and it didn't mention choline or I3C. Choline is in egg yolks, also in lecithin, wheat germ and liver, but he credited the egg benefits on the protein, not the choline. That encourages people to just eat egg whites which is counter productive. The benefits of cranberries and crucifers comes largely from the I3C which has several benefits among which is detoxifying the liver. I3C is an antioxidant, like vitamin C which he did mention. Since cranberries, lemon and lime are tart, many people sweeten them with sugar. This can undo the benefits. In summary, the article gave good advice but without the "why" people may misapply the advice.

Peter--which direction does the knee go when it collapses? Is there any pain at rest? Did the ART person test ligament stability?

It collapses to the outside and down, almost like the femur is trying to slide past and below the tibia. There was a lot of pain at rest, but Jody-Lynn (my ART practitioner and fellow MMA trainee) did some ART on it. She didn't test ligament stability, but said a) my hamstrings are very tight and strong, b) my quads are knotted up, and c) my patella tendon has some tendonitis, probably. She dug around into the kneecap today, and now it doesn't hurt at rest. In fact, it's not locking up like it did yesterday, and the last collapse was today during MMA class when I walking on the mat sideways . . . which was before she did some extra work on it at the end of class.

Scary injury. Yesterday and this morning, before the ART, I couldn't reliably walk. Every step I worried it would collapse completely.

Sorry Ken, I just noticed this!

Yeah, it seems to have passed into injury and enforced time off. Sigh. Bu the good part is, the dramatically increased working hours haven't gone down. :D

Could be, but it doesn't look torn, or feel painful on contact. Neither of the medical folks (a DC and the ART person) thought that I had suffered any tearing. I'm hoping they are right.

Today I can walk on it, but it's just weak and twinged a couple times and half-buckled once. Could be worse, and I'm reading everything I can find on knees right now.

It's improving, but still not good. I can walk on it, even ran on it once when I had to. But it's still twinge-y and weak.

Just a quick note. I'm still out here, I'm just on vacation. When I get back, I'll post my various updates to my log.

I also got some work done on my knee, so sooner or later you'll see some leg work show up in my workouts.

I'll post more when I get back from Japan.

Maybe you should hook up with Ken in Long Island. His gym opens when the power`s out. It`s good to hear that you`re doing OK.

Thanks guys.

I just noticed these.

We did okay, it was more a matter of fallen trees (blocking the way to the gym) and a gas shortage (making it hard to get there even if roads were open) that stopped me.
