Re: Bob's back rehab
St Elmo's Fire ?
(now I'll go google it)
Ok that was probably wrong, cant confirm..
But, with further thinking, and no cheating (except to exclude my first guess...)
I'll go with Truman Show ?
the Outsiders came to mind.. but Truman Show is my last official guess.
Oh, Blues Brothers.
Man, finally found it, nver woudl have guessed it. Saw it, but usually at loud parties.

100 points to you Oscar, it's Murph from Murph and the Magic Tones. I'm actually quite impressed anyone's reading my journal. Matt's is much more interesting!
Blues Brothers is an amazing film, cameos from James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway to name a few, belting stuff. John Belushi was one hell of a singer too, god rest his bloated, cocaine addled soul.

Re: Bob's back rehab
I have a weak core, exacerbated by lots of belly fat and desk job. Walking around walmart or general yard work would give me a minor back ache. That has improved with my general conditioning. But for deads and squats and presses, I know I could get more support from the abs/lower back/obliques
I figure, I'll learn something browsing your journal.
Best of wishes to get it figured out so you can get back to full mobility and eventually heavy lower body work

read everything you can by Mike Robertson and get that core strength up! You can thank me later.
Re: Bob's back rehab
Unlucky on the hip thrusts! Generally when this gets tough you'll have a tendency to hyperextend the back instead of the hips. I think doing the hold at the top as you suggested is a great idea to stop this happening, really focus on squeezing 'dem glutes.

yup, learned that the hard way. I just got too caught up in piling the weight on! Going to drop the weight way down and do higher reps in the sets, stopping well short of failure.
Going to treat it more as a rehab type exercise, as opposed to trying to make the bar bend like I was doing before.
It's what I should have been doing from the start really.

Re: Bob's back rehab
Out of curiosity, is there a particular place where your back gets sore? ie. one side or the other.

Re: Bob's back rehab
right down at the base, I think it's called the sacroilliac joint. Right where the spine meets the pelvis.
the tightness is in the spinal erectors just above my glutes. Rolling the $h1t out of it with a PVC pipe usually alleviates the tightness a bit.
has your back been hurting?

Re: Bob's back rehab
I used to have a bad back, used to give me a lot of discomfort. Then i started lifting and gradually over time it went away. My pain was only on me left side, quadratus lomborum to be exact. Weak glutes was my problem.
I found that i had, and still do a certain degree, a massive imbalance balancing on one leg or the other. Performing a single leg exercises with my left foot on the floor is easy, switch the footing and my balance is not so good.

weak glutes and abs is pretty much the source of all my misfortune. I've been doing glute activation stuff for ages but totally neglected to strengthen my abs. Couple that with miserable flexibility and terrible deadlift technique and I've been an accident waiting to happen for a long time.
feel like I'm on the home straight now though!

Re: Bob's back rehab
off day, back feels the best it has in weeks! I think a combination of it only getting trained once last week and this week, coupled with my new, mature attitude to hip thrusts has made all the difference.
I'm a very happy bobby today.

Are you really a bobby? Or are you a Bobby?

Re: Bob's back rehab
I'm a Bob really, but sometimes call myself Bobby when I'm pleased with myself. I'll most definitely never be a bobby, too much like hard work.
It's funny no one ever calls me Robert, except in formal situations, job interviews, my teachers at school etc. The only time I ever seem to call myself Robert is when I am angry at myself. For example if I get a good workout I'm like "Good on you Bobby," but then if I have a terrible workout it's "Damn it Robert you suck!"
