Here's a quote from Michael Boyle's blog (a few days old):
"Whether high fructose corn syrup is inherently more dangerous than sugar is not the point. The point is that it is a cheap source of calories used in the food industry to save money."
If it weren't for HFCS (again, whether or not it is more dangerous than other sugars), sources of concentrated high-glycemic carbs would be more expensive, and thus less accessible to many people.
