Hellooo!

I've just started lifting seriously, and now I have a question :D

I've been taking whey protein, creatine and L-Glutamine after my workouts for recovery etc.

I take this protein:

Unflavoured - absolutely disgusting dry heave stuff hahah

I don't hear many people talking about this - is it pretty useless in the end? The website has lots of praises for it so I thought i'd give it a shot.

Right - So, I'm pretty lacking in knowledge about supplements in general. Is that Protein trash? Because its so cheap I snapped it up but I want to be getting the best of the best (within affordable reason :wink: ). Don't want to waste my money on rubbish!

Is L-Glutamine Worthwhile?

Creatine seems to be very hit and miss - I'm taking 5g at the moment, I don't want to do a heavy loading phase and I only take it on my workout days.

I actually only take any of these on my workout days - I work out 4x a week. I only take them straight after my workout.

Is this sub-optimal? should I be supplementing more often.

The reason I've been kinda poked into asking mainly about the Whey Protein is because..

I get really bad gas recently! Like after taking my lovely cocktail of delights a few hours later I get really gassy, and let me tell you its not sweet smelling and rainbows.

I did have some cheap Body Fortress Whey protein from Holland and Barrets and it never affected me like this.
So that's why im thinking its the protein - but it could be just because im taking a big cocktail of those 3 ?

I was taking them with water, but I took them with milk because then its actually stomachable and it appears to be worse.

I hope yous can help with this slightly embarrassing problem - its not fun trying to hold it in in public :green:

Can yous recommend me the protein and creatine that you think is the best? Or that you use.

Glutamine doesn't do anything, so you can drop that one.
Don't load creatine, just take the 5 grams everyday. Not just workout days, but everyday. On workout days, take it after your workout.

Your protein looks good to me. It sounds like you are taking too much though. If you are taking 2 scoops, try 1.5. Too much of this will give you gas. Whey does this more than anything because of how quickly it is digested.

This is the creatine I use, but I'm sure the one you get is fine.

Yeah I wouldn't be put off the cheap stuff either from these or myprotein.co.uk. It's cheap because it's just whey with nothing else added like some expensive mixes, it's unflavoured so cheaper to make and less demand for it, and there's hardly any packaging. If you're supplementing a lot of protein it's the best way/whey (sorry). I buy the 5kg one from myprotein for 36 quid, well worth it. Mix it with either sugar free milkshake if I'm cutting or just any milkshake if not.

Took less protein today and didn't take L-Glutamine, feeling fine!

Thanks Nevage, I was worried that it was poor quality whey :D

haha, 5kg of maximuscle protein would be like [1 million dollars]
I just mix my protein with milk, since its unbearable with just water

i had a similar problem mixing it with milk, I switched to water and it got better. I also got a better quality brand as well which would probably have helped.

I thought I could just man through it, but it makes me dry heave hah, takes like 20minutes to drink a shakerfull

The only time I have it with water is post workout. I have a scoop of dextrose in there too and it's a sugary delight to drink! I look forward to the sweetness it quenches my thirst nicely. I have just whey with water if I'm cutting and it does taste bad but u get used to it, there's far worse tasting supplements I.e creatine ethyl ester and caffeine!

How worthwhile is dextrose?

I always have sandwiches after I come out the gym since I'm always starving haha figured I get the carbs I need from there. (I think dextrose is carbs anyway :red: )

Yes, dextrose is carbs. It's just sugar, glucose, also known as grape sugar. Due to its high glycemic index, you get an insulin spike which can be beneficial post workout.

I really struggle to eat after training I feel a bit sick so a shake is perfect and cheaper/easier. My mate buys food straight after and can eat loads. Eating before and after training always has to be spread out for me or I just wanna puke, don't know why I used to be alright. Squats tend to make me feel like throwing up the most!
