I found this article to be pretty interesting:
http://www.squidoo.com/foods-that-build-muscle-mass" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It basically recommends foods like burgers, pizza, nachos, etc... Lol
I think it was written as a bulking diet parody because a lot of the suggestions are humorous... And yet, there is a lot of truth in it.

Re: Fast Food Diet
Nothing new there. The protocol is the following:
Eat Clean to stay lean -> Eat crap to gain weight -> Eat clean to get lean again.
I'd rather eat my way slowly up than bloat and cut. You can eat heaps cleanly, it's just the easier route to eat that junk.

Eating clean doesn't work well. If it did, bodybuilders would follow that program in the off season...which they do NOT.
While you can increase muscle mass while "eating clean" it is much like taking a slow boat to China.
There is a definitive better way.
Bulking
Bodybuilder in the off season bulk up on pizza, burgers, etc. That because that diet works for increasing muscle mass.
While they do add muscle, the also increase their body fat percentages.
Cutting
However, the end result in when cutting, they drop a greater precentage of body fat while maintaining more muscle mass. That providing they know what they are doing.
Anedotal Evidence
The bodybuilding method of increaseing junk food and calories has been around forever because it works.
The additional calories along with the increase in insulin provide an anabolic envirment for muscle growth.
"Eating Heaps Cleanly"
There's a great example of an OXYMORON.

Well, I don't agree with it that these heavy foods are fine for our health. Burger and pizza contains heavy calories and not suitable for fitness seekers. The people who want to be fit but strong should eat high protein foods like egg, fresh vegetables, oyster mushroom etc. Protein provide strength but don't make us fat.

The article kid posted was on bulking up. To do that you've got to increase you caloric intake. Burgers and pizza are effective foods for doing that.John222 wrote:Well, I don't agree with it that these heavy foods are fine for our health. Bulking isn't a long term life style. It is more of a short term approach go adding body weight. It is an effective method even for "fitness seekers" as a means of increasing muscle mass.
Lyle McDonald (bodybuilding nutrition guru) has even stated that "eating clean" may not be the most effective ticket to gaining mass.
That in part has to do with the fact that you need to increase calories to increase muscle mass.
Also, high glycemic index foods stimulate insulin, a very anabolic hormone.
Unfortunately, insulin is a "fat maker". Thus, learning how and when to turn it on and off are important. It part science and part art.
By the way, exactly what are "heavy calories"?
Ingesting too many calories increases fat along with increasing muscle mass.
That means if you consume too many calories from protein, even protein will increase you body fat.

Yeah, I try to stick to light calories. 2000 heavy calories makes you so much heavier than 2000 light ones.
