Onion, garlic and similar

Hi dudes!
I almost finished improving my diet. I even managed to get off sweets.
And one of my last wishes is to start eating onion and garlic. But they really stink. So, is there a way to eat them without suffocating others? Maybe if we eat them before going to sleep, or maybe if we just swallow them without chewing, or something...
I need to improve my immune system, and they should help in that...

They taste good.

In what way do you hope that they will "improve [your] immune system"?

If people with respiratory infections are afraid to stand close to you because of how your breath smells, they won't be as likely to infect you. That won't really improve your immune system; in fact, it will give it less exercise!

Haha. But do you know some trick to not smell on them? I once read in newspaper that if we eat some vegetable after them, they won't smell, but that is too complicated.

as long as you're not eating them raw or by the ton, no one'll notice. If you are just using them as ingredients in cooking you'll be fine.

Onions and garlic are in most of my dinners. I could eat fried onions and mushrooms in garlic by the bowl full!

same here, I don't think there's anything I cook that doesn't have them in it

No one wants to hear another of my stories, right? Ok. Well suffice it to say that when a whole choir eats a lot of garlic bread just before a concert, the first several rows of the audience get to enjoy the garlic through the whole concert!

That was many years ago. I was in choirs in high school and college (university). Church choirs, etc. off and on through the years.

I love garlic and onion and I love the smell. On others, I feel the smell, but I don't find it unpleasant. However, my granny used to say that there isn't much that you can do about those smells, because it is not only in your oral cavity, but that it also goes out through the pores on your skin - especially garlic. However, she used to say that chewing on some coffee beans or raw parsley would do something about that smell...never bothered to try it out, but there...

The smell comes from the digestion of the sulfur compounds, forming allyl methyl sulfide which is released through your breath and sweat. Parsley can mask it to a small extent. I never heard of the coffee bean thing. The sulfur compounds are also what makes garlic, etc, so healthy.

You know, I was in horrible shape and I went to my doctor. He said to give up the "wine, women and song" as it was killing me. So I had to quit the church choir.

oven roasted whole cloves of garlic and brown onion is a frequent favourite part of dinner in our house. if the heat is right the sugars caramelise, the smell changes and the result is deliciously sweet. and you can roast a batch and refridgerate as necessary.
