Re: Chinup Challenge, 2013
Marinate for 24 hours in root beer and Jack Daniels, slow cook for 8 hours minimum, serve with chipotle mayo (real easy to make). Often I'll have it with grown up root beer floats (aka ice cream and whiskey).robertscott wrote:hot damn JJ I love pulled pork.

and that is a no.
Too sweet.
Bring in some vinegar, leave the rootbeer (maybe for a sauce component)
low and slow.

Chinup Challenge, 2013
I'd guess that Canadian soda and American soda would taste different, HFCS being a bit sweeter than glucose/fructose. Nonetheless it still seems a popular recipe in the US; you may not have as much of a sweet tooth as I.Oscar_Actuary wrote:and that is a no.

I love pulled pork. Not big on sweet though. So vinegar and Jack Daniels is the marinade?
I have some semi-cheap Irish whiskey I use to spike Irish Coffee, would that work or do I really need a sour mash? Is apple cider vinegar ok?
Definitely going to make that at some point.

If you don't want it to be as sweet, you can use something else like BBQ sauce or ketchup and brown sugar. If you just left the root beer out it'll be too sour for sure. I basically mashed up a Jack Daniels pulled pork recipe with a root beer pulled pork recipe, and you can use other whiskey even bourbon*. Here's a link to a JD pulled pork recipe. I basically drop all the non-dry ingredients add ~3/4 of a can of root beer per pork shoulder.Ironman wrote:I love pulled pork. Not big on sweet though. So vinegar and Jack Daniels is the marinade?

*Note I rarely drink so I know little about alcohol and cooking with it
It just tastes like a root beer float. I've got a huge sweet tooth and I don't drink very much (basically at BBQs and when cottaging/camping) so when I do I'm just looking for something sweet. On the rare occasion I'm in a pub it's gin and tonic. I'm very boring.robertscott wrote:the pork sounds awesome but those whiskey float things sound heinous
