Blood pressure testing during fitness assessment

Post by RunLolaRun5 » Tue Oct 25, 2011 5:51 am

Hi everyone - I'm new to the boards & have been enjoying reading all of the great information posted here!

I'm taking the AFAA personal trainer certification exam in January and have been practicing fitness assessments on my friends for the past couple weeks. My question is regarding blood pressure measurements. The book indicates that each state has individual laws about whether personal trainers are allowed to measure blood pressure on their clients. I have searched everywhere on the internet and can't seem to track this information down for Pennsylvania - does anyone out there know if trainers are allowed to provide this service to their clients here? Or have any idea on where I could go to find out? Sadly, the book doesn't provide this guidance.

Many thanks and keep up the great posts, I'm learning a lot from this forum!

Sorry that I can't answer your question, but I wanted to say that I'm glad you're thinking about this. I think it's a good thing for as many people to be checking BPs on as many people as possible. Without measurement that can be no awareness of hypertension. Any way that a person can find out that they are hypertensive and get treatment is a good thing.
