How to run

Post by VoK » Tue Feb 21, 2006 2:41 am

I've just recentaly gotten into my track workouts and I've figured out a few thing along the way.

I used to sprint primarily, as I was a basketball and football player. Now that I play Ultimate frisbee, there is a much larger endurance aspect to the sport.

Anyway, I found that in runs that don't require you to exert all energy at once, you take much larger steps, almost like you are striding. Also, you don't use your calves very much.

Is there any guide to running that's out there? Like certain techniques to use and certain ways to train to run faster? The distances I'm running are primarily 400m with an occasional 200 or 800m run for good measure.

Hi. Interesting question. It seems like what would work for you would be fartlek training, a type of unstructured intervals. More on this at
I'm also sure that in the training sections you will find other ideas.
Also loo over at, choose track and field. Lots of articles over there that may prove useful.
