Snatch Progressions

Post by Stephen Johnson » Sun Sep 10, 2006 7:58 pm

What are the progression exercises for the snatch? The progression exercises for the clean and jerk are listed here. It's a way off, but I'd like to take one last stab at doing snatches.

I know that

Overhead Squat
Press Under
Quick Drop

form part of a progression.

Well I am not sure about any official progression existing but to start, Snatch Grip DL and overhead squats are a good way to get a great base for any type of movement.

From there you can do Snatch High Pulls and Hang snatch high pulls while separately doing the stuff you listed.

I like t9 use Beurgner's warm up. Stand erect with the bar at your sides. Do 3 reps each of the following. Sn grip shrug with knee flexion, then go to upright row/high pull with knee flexion, muscle snatch (same movement but snatch it all the way up, no knee bend at the catch), then back squat pushpress behind neck, then drop snatches. Also, a good drill is a power snatch, drop into an overhead squat at the carch, and squat it back up. Sn DL's are also good for a strength base,
