HIIT in the morning?

Post by Dave X » Sat Jun 30, 2007 10:39 pm

I've seen it said many times on here that HIIT is best done soon after one wakes up, as carb stores are depleted and fat can be burned right away. My question is how soon should food be eaten after doing this?

I remember somoene saying that fat is essentially burned at a higher rate until you eat. But if you sleep for 8 hours (maybe more), then train, then don't eat afterwards, you're looking at 10+ hours without eating. Doesn't this negatively effect metabolic rate and fat loss?

As long as you eat right after and keep a steady stream of food through the day it should be fine. I really think the whole morning thing is overrated though. Especially for something like HIIT that works more through raising your metabolic rate for a period of time then for raw calorie consumption during the exercise.
